Candidate needs to have a deep understanding of engine performance data. Jet engines collect data - that data can be used to determine the "health" of an engine. That data requires organization, cleansing, and an understanding of how to “correct it to standard day”. If a candidate hasn’t been directly involved with processing engine data, it will be challenging to get them up to speed.

We need a utility player. There is not currently a team of people that can support this individual. We need someone willing to roll-up their sleeves. Someone that can get their hands dirty with organizing data (requesting files, downloading the files, organizing the files, structing the data to prepare it for a database). Then we need that same person to understand what the cells mean and how to interpret the data. Thus, they need to know engines and engine data. They would have to bump the raw data against models (they should be familiar with “correcting engine data” – to standardize the data). Then once all the data is collected, understood, and “corrected” this same person would need to help us with the reporting. This person would be responsible for using tools (excel, minitab, other 3rd party tools) to visualizing it for internal and customer consumption.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Deep understanding of engine performance data and processing engine data
  • 4+ years of experience in the field of jet engine or powerplant engineering data science; such us EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature), ITT (Interstage Turbine Temperature), FF (Fuel Flow), Margin analysis
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL Database, common programming languages
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard software and tools for data analytics
  • Experience with computational modeling, simulations, and testing methodologies
  • Ability to travel 5-10 times a year to customer sites when needed - valid passport needed
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot engine trends
  • Ability to synthesize complex messages in a clear and concise fashion to current and future customers
  • Familiarity with relevant industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Proven track record of successful project management and delivery

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a skilled and experienced Engine & Powerplant Data Engineer for a client in the aviation space. As the Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining their performance data infrastructure. You will work closely with their engineering team to develop computational modeling to evaluate and optimize jet engine and powerplant performance. The clients globally patented Nucleated Foam Technology revolutionizes the aviation industry, delivering substantial short and long-term ROIs for their clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, big data technologies, database design, and analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to the development of computational modeling, simulations, and testing to evaluate jet engine or powerplant performance associated with services
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining the performance data infrastructure
  • Work with current and potential customers regarding the comprehensive benefits of the clients services and engine performance to include monthly reporting
  • Conduct analysis to improve service schedules to optimize jet engine or powerplant performance, reliability, and lifespan
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate reporting and analytical capabilities into customer presentations and demonstrations
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to jet engine or powerplant technology
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and successful project completion
