Position Summary:

The Temporary Library Assistant provides essential support to thelibrary's staff, assisting in day-to-day operations, administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth library functioning. This position requires strong organizational skills, a passion for customer service, and attention to detail in managing library activities and supporting both staff and student users.

  1. General Administration:
•Provide clerical and administrative support to the library director and other library staff.
  1. User Support:
•Serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty, and visitors, answering general inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.

•Assist students and faculty in locating materials or using library resources such as online databases, research tools, and interlibrary loan services.

•Provide library orientation to new users, explaining library policies and services.
  1. Library Operations:
•Help with the management of circulation desk activities, including check-ins, check-outs, and renewals of library materials.

•Support in tracking overdue materials and sending out notifications to users.

•Handle data entry and update library systems as needed.
  1. Facilities Management:


•Ensure that spaces are well-organized and tidy.

•Assist with setting up equipment for events or presentations in library spaces.

Interlibrary loan and document deliveryPerform daily interlibrary loan activities including:

oUse Interlibrary software to process and track requests

oFinding, pulling and scanning requested volumes including from offsite storage facility.

oProcess items for shipping.

oAnswer patron questions about requests.

•Associate degree or higher in administration, library science, or a related field.

•Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and library management systems.

•Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a busy environment.

•Familiarity with library databases and research tools is a plus.

•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry 25-50 pounds.
This position is mostly sedentary with occasional standing and walking.
This position requires repetitive motion, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing ladders/stools, use of hands for basic grasping/manipulation and reaching above and below the shoulders.
Exposure to dust or other irritants will occur.
This is an in-person position.
