Essential Functions

  • Maintain hard floor surfaces in a clean and aseptic condition on a daily basis:
  • Sweeping for removal of lint and debris from floors, baseboards, and corners.
  • Damp mopping of hard floor surface areas, using approved germicidal solution. Includes baseboards and corners.
  • Moving, cleaning around and underneath movable objects.
  • Maintain carpeted areas in an attractive and clean condition on a daily basis:
  • Vacuuming of all carpets in assigned area, as well as, cleaning baseboards.
  • Spot cleaning.
  • Carpet extraction as necessary, recording of same.
  • Maintain walls, corridors, baseboards and ceilings in a dust, dirt, and lint free condition:
  • Daily removal of cobwebs, lint, and spots.
  • Wash and/or wipe with germicidal solution daily.
  • Maintenance of Rest Rooms on a daily basis:
  • Disinfect and sanitize toilets,
  • Disinfect and sanitize sinks.
  • Disinfect and sanitize bathtubs and showers according to proper procedures.
  • Disinfect and sanitize pipes and flat surface areas in rest rooms.
  • Floor cleaned and free of debris.
  • Disinfect and sanitize vertical and horizontal surface areas.
  • Total room/hall/common area maintenance on a daily basis:
  • Walls, corners, and ceilings kept clean and fee of dust. Use approved germicidal detergent.
  • Empty trash receptacles; wipe with approved germicidal agent, twice per shift.
  • Clean furnishings and equipment on a daily basis:
  • Clean all patient room furniture daily, sanitizing between patients.
  • Make unoccupied patient beds.
  • Decontaminates instruments and other central supply items.
  • Collects, cleans, and checks equipment for safety (i.e. condition of cords, plugs, suction). Initiates repair process as needed.
  • Replaces sharps containers.
  • Check and refill as needed, soap and paper dispensers.
  • All glass surface areas spot cleaned daily and cleaned bi-monthly.
  • Maintain assigned closets in a clean and orderly condition:
  • Keep custodian closets orderly and neat each shift. Ensure only hospital approved chemicals and equipment are present daily.
  • All other assigned closets are kept clean, neat, orderly, and stocked at end of each shift.
  • Trash and linen removal:
  • Remove trash, soiled linens, and bio-hazardous waste twice per shift from assigned areas daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 6 months to 1 year experience
