Position Description

Since 2012, RWC's Americas revenues have tripled and now make up over 60% of the company's worldwide revenues; it expects to more than double those revenues through continued organic and acquisition means in the coming years. With that, the Cost Accountant will execute and assist in the development of improving the organization's overall financial practices to lead that growth rather than react to it.

The Cost Accountant will report to the Operations Accounting Manager and work closely with the Operations Controller. They will interface with members across many functional areas, primarily focusing on the Operations team. They will be responsible for various accounting areas supporting all cost accounting activities, including performing monthly close processes, internal and external financial reporting, internal control compliance, and budgeting/forecasting/theoretical costing. The Cost Accountant will be instrumental in developing and implementing improved processes to achieve more accurate and timely costs of goods sold that support the overall business, providing a foundation for escalated growth and continued acquisitions.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and analyze cost data for multiple plants to accurately set and maintain standard costs for purchased and manufactured goods.
  • Analyze costs related to the manufacturing processes (e.g., understand and analyze production orders, analyze direct and indirect manufacturing costs, perform cost variance analyses, and identify errors then calculate necessary corrections).
  • Support inventory control, including analysis, reporting, and investigation of variances, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure inventory accuracy and availability.
  • Respond to requests from leadership and prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
  • Accurately calculate and post a variety of journal entries related to month end including reclassifications, certain accruals, expensing of prepaid amounts, etc.
  • Accurately perform control procedures for the team related to journal entry and reconciliation completeness tracking.
  • Prepare reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, focusing on inventory and related reserves.
  • Assist with analyzing both the balance sheet and the income statement to ensure accuracy; assist with variance analysis from budget, forecast, and prior month.
  • Document and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential efficiency improvements throughout the accounting function to increase productivity in the department.
  • Assist with yearly budget process and quarterly forecast updates.
  • Prepare supporting documentation as needed for annual audits and tax preparation.
  • Work with other departments as assigned to create and enhance monthly cost center reviews to enhance the accuracy of actual results and forecasting capabilities.
  • Analyze data and procedures for opportunities to improve financial controls and reduce cost to the business.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of ad hoc reporting to prepare for additional responsibilities and changing business demand.

The desired candidate will be a passionate, high-performance individual who has a demonstrated history of performing diverse and agile accounting functions in a manufacturing enterprise in a public company environment. The Cost Accountant will strive to be a business partner, with a grounding in compliance and fiduciary responsibilities. The Cost Accountant will be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, excited to problem-solve and work with ambiguity and autonomy. They will thrive being a part of a high-performing team of a growing company. They will be able to use sound judgment in decision making and work with a sense of urgency. The Cost Accountant should be comfortable taking on new tasks and responsibilities while also maintaining routine best practices and operations, increasing documentation around procedures, and learning new "ways of working" as RWC continues to invest in its financial reporting and analytical capabilities. Strong communication skills highly preferred due to the variability of the business partner range of influence. They must be willing to travel as needed (travel will likely not be more than 10 percent on an annual basis).

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Business Administration required.
  • Active CPA or CPA candidate preferred, but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience
  • Manufacturing industry experience and/or public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience working in a fast paced, deadline driven accounting environment
  • SAP software experience is preferred
