Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Food Server believes in, and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success. The Food server is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of food to each student as well as maintaining clean and safe facilities in adherence to the laws, rules, and regulations related to the operations of site kitchen facilities.

What you will need to accomplish:
  • Assist in preparing and serving food - transfer food (approx. 15lbs.), unpack boxes and supplies (approx. 40lbs.), move milk crates (approx. 25lbs.)
  • Clean and maintain kitchen facilities and surroundings, which includes: replenishing and carrying sanitation buckets (approx. 15 lbs.), cleaning and sanitizing tables, sheet pans, and dishes, and sweeping and mopping floors every 4 hours (or as needed)
  • Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines, which includes: updating the daily Menu Board (approx. 5-6 ft. high) with all food item details
  • Ensure that all food preparation is done on time to meet all serving schedules
  • Operate all related equipment as required - i.e., oven, thermometer, computer, etc.
  • Maintain proper sanitary and safety practices
  • Routinely logs food details by including specific times and temperatures for both cold and hot meals
  • Adhere to and observe district policies and federal food regulations
  • Knowledge of the National School Lunch Program
  • Organize kitchen facilities, equipment, and food as appropriate
  • Follow established policies by returning uneaten food to the central kitchen
  • Empty waste into large trash containers (approx. 30 lbs.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • High School degree or GED preferred
  • Food Safety certificate or attend training upon onboarding required
Experience:
  • Nutritional and feeding programs experience is preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in school foodservice
  • Experience in large-scale food preparation preferred
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to the operation of site kitchens
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Persons performing services in this position will exert 10 to 40 lbs. and/or 6-7 ft. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, reach, or otherwise move objects

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
