Job Description: Estimator for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Construction

Overview: We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team specializing in transmission and distribution (T&D) construction projects. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in accurately forecasting project costs, preparing competitive bids, and ensuring the financial success of projects related to the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles, cost estimation techniques, and project management processes specific to the T&D sector.

Responsibilities:

1. Cost Estimation:
   
   • Develop detailed cost estimates for transmission and distribution construction projects, considering all phases from initial planning to project completion.
   • Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to determine accurate cost estimates.
   • Account for factors such as materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor services, and overhead to ensure comprehensive and precise estimates.
2. Bid Preparation:
   
   • Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals based on client requirements and requests for proposals (RFPs).
   • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to understand technical requirements and incorporate them into bid documents.
   • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure alignment with project specifications and budgetary constraints.
3. Risk Assessment:
   
   • Identify potential risks and opportunities related to project costs and timelines.
   • Work with project managers and engineers to assess risk factors and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
4. Budget Management:
   
   • Assist in the development and management of project budgets, monitoring costs throughout the project lifecycle.
   • Compare actual project costs against estimates, providing updates and analysis to project stakeholders.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
   
   • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and other relevant documentation.
   • Generate reports and presentations to communicate cost estimates, bid strategies, and project status to stakeholders.
6. Continuous Improvement:
   
   • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in construction technology and methods related to T&D projects.
   • Contribute to the development and improvement of estimating tools, processes, and workflows.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an Estimator in the transmission and distribution construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and materials used in T&D projects.
• Proficiency in cost estimation software and tools (e.g., estimating databases, spreadsheets, CAD software).
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and present complex information clearly.
• Project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP) is desirable.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
