As a metabolic specialist, this role establishes nutrition care plans for challenging patients receiving home enteral or parenteral nutrition including consultation on metabolic demands, disease state and treatment. Interfaces with the patient through clinic visits and telephone contacts. This role works in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner to ensure that optimal and appropriate specialized nutrition support is provided in the outpatient setting. Also acts as a specialist for inpatients preparing to discharge on TPN for case management, discharge planning, and education for patients, Accountable for TPN order writing, education, and tapering to nocturnal schedules prior to discharge. The Nutrition Support dietitian works with a high degree of professional autonomy and participates in research and department continuous improvement projects to improve outcomes.Posting DetailsShift: This would be a PRN position but with an element of consistency/predictability. PRN- As neededThis job will be out of IMED and on our nutrition support team which is an outpatient service. CNSC certification (Certified Nutrition Support Clinician) strongly preferredJob DutiesCompletes and documents specialized nutrition assessment.Completes and documents nutrition diagnosis in the specialty area.Identifies and implements appropriate nutrition interventions including quality nutrition education based on customer needs, expectations, and culture.Monitors and evaluates individual patient nutrition outcomes related to nutrition diagnosis, goals, and interventions in the specialty area.Communicates nutrition expertise with all appropriate healthcare providers.Uses resources effectively and efficiently in practice.Mentors staff and students.Participates in department continuous quality improvement projects, strategic plans, and initiatives.Works with a moderate degree of professional autonomy and independent practice using diagnostic reasoning skills.Applies research to improve patient outcomes.Note: If employee is hired without being a Certified Dietitian (or Licensed Dietitian if working in Idaho), they must become certified or licensed within two months of hire to remain in the job.Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or nutrition related field. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.Food handler's permit (as required by facility).4,000 hours of work experience in specialty area,or 2,000 hours of experience and credentialed specialty certification such as CSG, CSO, CSSD, CNSC, CSP, CSR, CDE, CSOWM.
