This is a unique and one-of-a-kind position Our client has 1,500 dogs and cats who are the “taste testers” for brands of pet food that are sold in pet stores across the US. This is an opportunity to be the veterinarian for the “taste tester” dogs and cats. This position is open because the same veterinarian who has held this job for 38 years is about to retire and is ready to train the next veterinarian to take over this one-of-a-kind role. The team at this facility is providing industry-leading pet food evaluation for dogs and cats. The study directors and veterinary team work together to maximize successful design and implementation of client requested studies for agencies such as AAFCO, VOHC and FDA-CVM as well as for general company evaluation of products. The veterinarian will provide general clinical and surgical care for animal health while utilizing on-site equipment such as dental and table x—ray, ultrasound, ultrasonic and highspeed dental units, Vet-Tome, and electrocautery unit. The veterinarian will handle efficacy using anesthesia protocols, management of pre-and post-op care and general surgical skills. The veterinarian will manage the animal colony healthcare including vaccination, dental health and parasitic control, monitor drug inventory, recording controlled drug usage and ordering supplies. The day will include participating in IACUC activities such as study approval, standard operating procedure review and facility inspections, interacting with study clientele and developing protocols based on those interactions, participating in study specific activities such as performing physical examinations on animals as required by study protocols, processing and shipping of laboratory specimens, assessing sample analysis results and writing and interpretating data as it pertains to the studies. Qualifications include DVM/VMD degree from a US veterinary medical college or equivalent degree with US equivalency examination, veterinary license in the state of Pennsylvania, ability to obtain a DEA license, minimum of 1 year of experience in private practice or equivalent. Preferred skills include USDA accreditation, proficient in Microsoft Office, ultrasound and x-ray technique skills, organizational skills, people management skills. There will be after hours emergency care required on a rotating basis. This would be a great opportunity for someone looking to get out of NYC or Philly as this area is quite rural, but still 2-3 hours driving distance away.
