POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for the oversight of Inpatient Nursing, Emergency Department and Case Management. Is available to assist in all areas as needed. Inpatient Nursing and Emergency Department responsibilities include planning, collaboration, and implementation of safe and effective patientcare to include discharge planning working with interdisciplinary members of the healthcare team ensuring excellent patient care through the development of clinical protocols and pathways. Monitor patient outcomes and address as necessary. Is responsible for collaboration, development, and implementation of safe and effective patient discharge planning. Works with all appropriate/interdisciplinary members of the health care team, ensuring coordination of patient care through the development and use of clinical protocols and pathways. Ensures that specific patient outcomes are achieved and that variances from established and accepted parameters are evaluated and addressed as necessary. Will ensure appropriate level of care and admission/discharge criteria are met using the measure and monitoring of severity of illness and intensity of service needs through use of interqual monitoring criteria.

  • Identifies and participates in the improvement initiative to improve customer experience, enhance workflow andor improve the work environment.
  • Participates in new employee orientation for all new staff and completes competencies for nursing staff.
  • Ensures the delivery of annual mandatory and continuous education for staff utilizing both internal and external resources according to the state and federal regulations and company policy.
  • Maintains employee education and training files.
  • Assists with Quality Improvement along with the Quality Improvement Officer.

  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge to effectively complete assigned tasks and completes all required education programs.

  • Builds and updates physician preference cards as needed through the scheduling system.
  • Runs and prepares reports for unit leaders or administration as needed.
  • Monitor specific patient outcomes in all areas and evaluate to be sure excellent care is achieved and address as needed.
  • Participates in any/all Performance Improvement initiatives as assigned, including HEN initiative(s) (e.g. Reducing Readmissions), and Meaningful Use indicator monitoring.
  • Responsible for assisting with coverage in both the Emergency Room and Inpatient areas in the event of short staffing or for call ins.
  • Responsible for preparing the staff schedule for both Inpatient and the Emergency Room.
Service:
  • Works diligently to meet every customer's needs.
  • Fully engaged, fully aware and available to help others while on duty.
  • Participates in any/all Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains accountability for actions taken, working within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act, the departments and the hospital.
  • Provides a direct line of communication between patients, patient's families, nursing staff and physicians
Finance:
  • Accomplishes tasks with the minimum expenditure of time, materials, and money with service as the guiding principle.
  • Works productively while on the clock and offers to help others when work is completed.
  • Communicates surgical data to administration, offices, and others as requested.
  • Average case times and update per policy and when requested.
  • Maintains high level knowledge of Revenue Cycle Process(es) as well as, both CMS and commercial insurance concepts,

  • Assists with data analysis for surgical trends.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
  • Education/Experience Requirements: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor's degree preferred or current enrollment in a program. Three or more years of previous management experience in all aspects of nursing or a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred. Knowledgeable regarding North Carolina Nurse Practice Act.
  • Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current North Carolina Registered Nurse Licensure. Current BLS certification required and obtained within 3 months after hire. ACLS and PALS required and obtained within six months following hire.
