Child Care Center Kitchen Support position (dishwasher/prep cook)
- Assist in preparing attractive and nutritionally balanced meals and snacks that taste good to children.
- Ensure food is cooked and served appropriate to the age and development for each age group.
- Provide children with food allergies appropriate food and maintain proper systems including proper preparation to avoid cross-contamination, labeling, plating, and serving.
- Communicate with Chef to provide an efficient functioning food program.
- Ensure food supplies are properly stored and adhere to Health Department regulations.
- Ensure cooking utensils, plates, cups, equipment, and serving pieces are cleaned and sanitized and properly stored after each meal and snack.
- Maintain inventory of serving utensils, plates, cup and bowls and ensure adequate supply as center numbers change.
- Unload and store deliveries.
- Sweep and mop floors as scheduled and as needed due to spills.
- Wear proper cooking attire such as hair restraint, apron, gloves and adhere to center dress code policy.
- Assist Chef with proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment and report maintenance issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Be 18 years of age
- High school diploma
- Food Handlers or Food Manager certification, must be obtained within 10 days of hire. YMCA will pay for and support earning it.
- Experience working in a kitchen, prepping fresh food and washing large quantities of dishes.

Employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for long periods, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch, and taste and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Characteristics of the work environment are representative of those that may be encountered by an employee while performing the essential functions of the job.
