The Children's Clinic - Advanced Practice Provider Full Job Description: The Children's Clinic is actively seeking a Advanced Practice Provider to join our team. This is a full-time position for qualified applicants in the State of Oregon. Primary Responsibilities: Elicits medical history and conducts physical exam on patients to provide health assessment and screen for abnormal conditions. Assesses, diagnoses, and treats medical problems in accordance with department protocols and records the same for review by the supervising physician(s). Reports abnormal conditions to the appropriate physician if/when applicable. Orders, performs, and interprets routine laboratory tests. Orders X-rays, EKGs, and other related studies as required. Consults with patients in a clinic setting and/or refers patients to department physicians, other specialists, and medical and community resources, as necessary. Prescribe medications based on patient's medical diagnosis and needs. Provides education and instruction on patient's condition(s) as required. Directs other medical personnel in the execution of patient care. Provides immediate evaluation, treatment, and institution of procedures essential to providing appropriate response to emergency medical problems in accordance with standard protocols. Maintains patient records through documentation of all necessary information. Works with the TCC medical director or mentor to develop policies and protocols for the PA/NP practice. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate articles, journals, and related material, and by attending seminars, conferences and so forth. A PA & NP (without DEA license) performs all duties under the direction and supervision of physician(s) of the department and in accordance with established policies and procedures. May assist with physician desktops as needed. Qualifications Required for the Position: Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited university. Physician Assistant: Bachelor's degree in science, Physician Assistant Studies, or Healthcare related field from an accredited university A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a licensed advanced practice provider: (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) Three (3) years of APP experience preferred. Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Oregon. DEA license to prescribe controlled substances (if applicable) Certified in pediatrics (PPCNP-BC, CPNP-CP, or PA-C with CAQ in pediatrics) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Mandatory Reporting certifications Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, assessment of patient condition, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and standard treatment protocols at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program. Communication skills. Need to convey information effectively to their patients and to other healthcare workers. They also must be able to dictate or write reports that clearly describe a patient's medical condition or procedure outcome. People skills. Necessary in order to answer routine inquiries from patients when conducting physical exams and instructing and/or educating about conditions and treatments, to communicate with department personnel when exchanging patient-related information, and to discuss patient condition with physicians. Compassion. Patients who are sick or injured may be in extreme pain or distress. APPs must treat patients and their families with understanding. Detail oriented. To ensure that patients receive appropriate treatment, including medication, physicians must be precise in monitoring them and recording information related to their care. Dexterity. Must be agile and surehanded, especially when working with extremely sharp medical instruments. Leadership skills. Physicians must coordinate with a team of other healthcare workers to manage patient care or direct medical procedures. Organizational skills. Good recordkeeping and other administrative skills are critical for physicians in both medical and business settings. Patience. Must remain calm and tolerant when working with patients who need special attention, such as those who fear or ignore medical treatment. Physical stamina. May spend many hours on their feet, including walking between patient visits or procedures. Problem-solving skills. Need to evaluate patients' symptoms to determine appropriate treatment. In some situations, such as emergencies, they may need to analyze and resolve crises quickly. Analytical skills. Necessary in order to review nurse's notes, laboratory data and other patient information when evaluating patient condition, and when reviewing medical charts. Teamwork - Demonstrates collaboration, values input and maintains effective working relationships. Work Environment: Environmentally controlled medical office environment Fast-paced setting with occasional high-pressure or emergent situations Handling specimens of blood or body fluids, including secretions and excretions. Exposure to various chemical agents typically used in a clinical setting. Must be able to stand, stoop, walk, bend, and kneel for prolonged periods. Work closely with others in a team setting.
