As full-time paid EMT Students, candidates are led through the approved EMT course by a certified instructor and will be preparing to take the National Registry of EMTs written and practical exams for EMT certification at the end of the course. Upon successful completion of the course and obtaining required certifications, students will transition to Full-Time EMTs with Charleston County. EMT Students will be required to attend EMT classes, read and understand the course materials, complete all coursework in a timely manner, and prepare for the National Registry of EMTs Exam for the Emergency Medical Technician level. Obtaining an EMT certification through the State of South Carolina after successfully completing the course will be an essential requirement for continued employment with Charleston County EMS. The work is performed under supervision and direction by a department approved instructor, field training officer or supervisor.
