We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team of top technology professionals in our office in Newton to help our migration towards an automation first priority. As part of the IT Operations team, you share responsibility for the design, development, provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software, as well as related infrastructure environments. Additionally, you will work with software developers, infrastructure administrators, and enterprise architects to plan, implement, and maintain software solutions and systems architecture technologies that run our products and services.

The kind of stuff you'll be doing:

  • Contributing to the operational oversight & security of our Paytronix Loyalty Services platform across our on-premise, Amazon Web Services & Azure Cloud environments
  • Advancing & extending the capabilities our Paytronix Loyalty Services platform by collaborating with Engineering and Operations teams
  • Participating in operational project design reviews, infrastructure implementations & automation efforts
  • Using your past experience and forward thinking mindset to help grow & scale the Paytronix Loyalty Service platform while maintaining optimal performance and availability
  • Participating in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure
  • As a member of our growing operations team, you are expected to serve as a core member of the broader team and assist with operational responsibilities as needed, including:
    • Providing direct support during application and production infrastructure deployments
    • Leveraging automation and configuration tools to install software, updates, OS upgrades, and provision servers
    • Performance of daily system monitoring and operational tasks to ensure the health of our systems
    • Participating in hardware installation, upgrades, and maintenance
    • Providing occasional after-hours response support for application or infrastructure project deployments
  • This is an on-call position with an expectation to participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation
The kind of experience you'll need:
  • 2+ years experience with scripting languages, specifically PowerShell and Python
  • Previous experience automating key IT Operations functions such as Onboarding/Offboarding, SSO group assignments, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux server ecosystems including automation, provisioning, security, and general administration
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • Authentication and Single Sign-on service providers such as Azure Active Directory
  • Strong knowledge of and hands-on experience with all aspects of the network stack
    • Switching, routing, VPN, VPC, firewall, load balancing, CDN, rate limiting, software defined networking
    • DHCP, SMB, DNS, SMTP, SFTP, SSH, NTP, NSG, VRRP, BGP, etc...
  • Experience with High Availability designs and technologies
  • Experience with and knowledge of security best practices for applications, systems and cloud environments
  • Experience with cloud service providers such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with patching systems and applications in a cloud environment
  • Experience with systems and application monitoring and alerting
  • Experience supporting a 7x24x365 Software-as-a-Service computing platform
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, project management skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
The extra stuff that would be nice:
  • Experience with and capability to provide support to both corporate IT and production data center environments
  • Familiarity with the theory and practice of Agile, CI/CD and DevOps
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible and Puppet
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Knowledge of version control solutions such as Git, SVN, TFS, GitHub, BitBucket, or similar
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in zero downtime environment
  • CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
  • Docker, and orchestration suites such as Kubernetes, AKS/EKS/GKE
Salary Range: 85-105k
