Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Tasks include:
- processing and prepping incoming surgical specimens from Outpatient and Inpatient clients
- distributing pathology reports
- preparing pathology case materials to send out for additional testing, consult or additional opinion
- filing/monitoring pathology case specimens, slides
POSITION PURPOSE:

Perform histology procedures of processing, embedding, cutting mounting and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation and diagnosis by pathologists.

What will you do:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
  • Responsible for the daily workload including processing, embedding, cutting, and coverslipping of tissue slides, performing cytologic slide preparation, performing routine, IHC and special stains and the appropriate Quality Control, operating and maintaining all histology and cytology equipment.
  • Follows operational procedures and performs scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting duties and involves the Instrument Specialists when needed. Utilizes manufacturers technical support under the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Documents daily workload and slide turnaround time to ensure timely delivery of slides to the pathologists.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by following established safety and exposure control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications.
  • Assists in maintaining current written policy and procedure manuals, which are reviewed and revised on a yearly basis.
  • Assists in training new personnel.
  • Assists with department inventory including the ordering and receipt of supplies and reagents.
  • Has good working knowledge of all necessary software applications to include Microsoft Office, CoPath, CLICS, etc.
What we are looking for:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
