Speech Pathologist Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Assumes all responsibilities of a speech pathologist by providing direct patient care to patients from infancy through adults.
  • Understands and follows department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates patient's conditions, requirements, and knowledge level; cooperates with the physician and patient/significant other to evaluate and develop appropriate speech therapy treatment plan and goals. Updates goals and establishes new goals as needed.
  • Performs prescribed treatments of outpatients, and inpatients including Modified Barium Swallow Studies.
  • Determines patient equipment needs and instructs patients and their families in available resources.
  • Documents the patient's treatment and progress toward goals after each speech therapy treatment according to established standards.
  • Participates in communication and problem solving with patient/significant other, health team members, and other departments. Participates in case conferences. Works cooperatively with other staff and departments to optimize the efficient utilization of Speech Pathology Services.
  • Evaluates patient outcome and coordinates discharge of patient from speech therapy.
  • Plans, develops, and implements Speech Pathology programs and goals consistent with the hospital objectives and in conjunction with the Director of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy. Assists director in assessing community needs and developing new services/program as needed.
  • Develops and implements Policies, Procedures, and Standards of Case for the Speech Pathology program in conjunction with the Director of Island Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy.
  • Assesses own learning needs and establishes priorities and develops action plan.
Job Requirements:
  • Must have a master's degree in Communicative Disorders or Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence granted by the American Speech and Hearing Association.
  • Must be currently licensed as a Speech Pathologist in the State of Washington.
  • Basic Life Support Certification
