RECRUITMENT & RETENTION SPECIALIST Department: Public Defender Classification: N13 / 11 FLSA Status: Exempt Pay range: $26.62 - $32.49 Reports to: Chief Public Defender Union: Non-Represented General Summary Under the supervision of the Chief Public Defender, the Recruitment & Retention Specialist serves as the primary coordinator of initiatives intended to both attract new professionals into the field of public defense, and ensure employee sustainability within the workplace. Essential Functions Consults with Chief Public Defender to understand the requirements, duties, and qualifications for specified positions. Coordinate with law schools, graduate schools, and defender leaders to build intern and/or extern programs. Aid in development of student attorney training and learning opportunities. Training defender leaders on best-practices in recruitment, retention, and burnout reduction. Promote careers in Michigan's public defense systems, both statewide and nationally. Build opportunities for postgraduate fellowship programs in Michigan public defense systems. Collects data and records to identify and select potential candidates. Screens candidates, selects qualified and interested candidates for the interviewing phase, and then connects viable candidates with hiring manager. Checks candidates' references and credentials, verifying experience and background. Counsels candidates on the interview and hiring process. Organizes and attends job fairs, campus events, and other networking Follows up with hiring manager after the interview process to determine whether a placement can be made. Collects feedback when placement is unsuccessful. Arranges meeting locations, travel, and/or accommodations for applicants when Maintains and ensures compliance with applicable equal employment opportunity (EEO) and related employment laws and regulations. Oversee and manage a pipeline of top talent relationships and maintain contact with potential candidates that may be a future match for open positions. Strengthen candidate search opportunities through multiple channels like colleges, networking groups, and service organizations. Maximize outreach methods to job seekers, such as social media, job fairs, job boards, etc. This list may not be inclusive of the total scope of job functions to be performed. Bachelor's degree is preferred. A law degree or completion of law school is preferred. Experience:

Three years of talent acquisition or legal recruiting experience. Knowledge of recruitment best practices is required. Excellent communication skills, time management, and relationship-building skills are desired.
