MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Providing overall program direction and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the outreach services.DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform outreach activities to community-based organizations, individual groups, community agencies, local officials, and any other appropriate.Identify and complete initial contact with Veterans.Completion of an initial interview and assessment.Refer Veterans to appropriate services needed.Work with the Program Manager to develop Facebook and Twitter feeds, blog posts, and electronic media information.Supervise Peer Outreach workers.Facilitate referrals to VA and community support services.Assume other duties as assigned by the SSVF Program Manager.•REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Excellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detailTeam Player with good listening skillsProficient in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPointMust be able to interact with homeless Veterans, develop a trusting relationship, and have a solid understanding of the dynamics of homelessness.A car for visits to Veterans in their own homes or at other locationsREQUIRED Valid New York State Driver's License and own insured Vehicle with 100/300 bodily injury liability insuranceREQUIRED PPD WITH PROOFPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, including housing instability, poverty, mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, and legal barriers, as well as available resources and best practices for serving homeless individuals. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.Experience working with Veterans is a plus. MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor from an accredited college or university in health or human service, plus 1-2 years' experience working with at-risk populations Or 5+ years' experience working with at-risk populations.CategoryNon- Exempt
