Welder - Custom FabFLSA Class: Non-Exempt/HourlyDepartment: Custom FabType: Full-TimeReports To: Group Manager - Custom FabEEO-1 Class: OperativesSalary Range: $19.50 - $30.00 per hourSummary/Objective The Custom Welder/Fabricator performs tasks of fusing similar and dissimilar metals together with speed and accuracy in the creation of quality products.Essential Functions Understand and interpret Weld Symbols to follow the directions as specified on drawing or print. Capable of following directions as specified in procedure, process, work instruction or verbal. Capable of working unsupervised for periods of time and accomplishing work in a timely manner. Responsible for working in a safe manner, wearing all required safety equipment, and reporting any unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or safety items. Operation of a variety of welding equipment including Oxy-Fuel cutting torches, Plasma cutters, saws, grinders, sand/media blasters and other hand tools. Designs, fabricates, joins, repairs, develop fixtures, assists in first article recommendations of welded products, creates quality products. Assist in estimates of material, time, and labor. Recommendations of supplies and materials to be ordered. Analyze plans, designs, drawings, work samples, specifications, work order to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments. Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks. Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal. Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders, and welding torch. Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame. Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod, when necessary, to molten area to form weld. Examines welds for bead size and other specifications. Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts. Applies flux to workpiece instead of filler rod. Preheats workpiece in furnace or with torch. Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces. Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines. Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal. Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter. Cleans or degreases parts. Operational knowledge of Leak Detector and its functions. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Educations and Experience High School Diploma, GED and/or Technical School Graduate with focus on Welding or industry recognized certification. 8+ Years of experience with GTAW welding of stainless steel and aluminum, high tolerance precision tubing and pipe weldments and/or successful completion and certification in ANCORP Welding Program through the American Welding Society. Skills and Competencies Experience in reading and understanding, prints, drafts, drawings, symbols, codes, and work instructions. Must have basic math/algebra skills. Able to read, write, and have a working knowledge of English. A knowledge of technical drawings is required. Detail Oriented. Team Player. Able to follow written and oral instructions. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.Physical Demands The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
