Assistant Supervisor Toolroom/Storeroom

Purpose:

Colonna's Shipyard is seeking an Assistant Supervisor Toolroom/Storeroom to oversee toolroom operations in Norfolk, VA.

The Assistant Supervisor - Toolroom/Storeroom supports the efficient management of toolroom and storeroom activities and personnel, ensuring adherence to quality standards and promoting a culture of productivity and safety. Position supports departmental management in the supervision of personnel and acts as a lead in the department's operations of equipment/tool management. Additionally, the Asst. Supervisor is tasked with supporting of the Controlled Equipment program.

This position is in Norfolk, VA and may require work beyond standard operating hours.

Job Description:

Supervisory Support:
  • Assist the Supervisor in the daily oversight and motivation of personnel to achieve productivity, cost, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and goal-oriented work environment.
  • Identify training needs and assist/lead training in proper requisition and material handling practices, emphasizing adherence to company standards and procedures. Identify and support employee development opportunities.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Materials Supervisor in their absence, ensuring continuity and efficiency of operations and provide supervision to employees at alternate work locations, as needed.
Operational Support:
  • Support the coordination of storeroom activities, operations, and policies in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Assist in the issuance and recovery of tools in compliance with company Tool Program regulations, ensuring accurate recording of transactions in relevant databases.
  • Oversee and conduct storeroom and toolroom window transactions, maintaining accuracy and completeness of records in both physical and electronic formats.
  • Aid in the entry of storeroom tickets in Deltek Costpoint, maintaining up-to-date and accurate records of transactions and inventory levels.
  • Report any defective/missing materials or questionable conditions to the Storeroom Supervisor for prompt resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Storeroom Supervisor in creating and submitting requisitions for storeroom materials to Purchasing Agents, ensuring timely procurement and replenishment of supplies.
  • Support efforts to ensure that all inbound material conforms to the description and quantity specified on Purchase Orders, promptly addressing any discrepancies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the overall objectives and priorities of the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Experience is required to include previous support in a storeroom or toolroom environment.
  • Must possess the aptitude, organizational and customer service skills, and leadership potential to be effective in this supervisory capacity.
  • Position requires flexibility in schedule - must be able to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Must have proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to lead and work effectively with others.
  • Must have efficient computer skills with the ability to work in various computer databases, to include Deltek Costpoint and Hilti On-Track.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
  • General toolroom/office environment.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is generally performed within an industrial office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
  • A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
