Description The Hockomock Area YMCA's Camp Wapawca in Foxboro, MA is hiring a Camp Sports Director to lead and direct the sports activities and programs at Summer Camp. This position ensures the successful execution of all aspects of our sports programs, including creating a safe, fun, and engaging camp environment that delivers great instruction and competition. This position helps to create a positive, safe, supportive environment for participants and staff, and works in a committed and respectful manner aligned with the
mission and philosophy of the YMCA.
Essential Functions
- Oversees all sports programming: practices, games, tournaments, events, etc.
- Establishes and executes skill development curriculum and a coaching philosophy with counselor coaches
- Leads and applies coaching philosophy, structure, efficiency, communication, and implementation for each
program area - Collaborates with the Camp Directors and Assistant Directors on program, staff, campers, facilities, and purchases
- Creates and organizes new creative camp events and activities
- Helps to train, schedule, supervise, and staff in the sports camp programs
- Participates in and helps to plan and set up Camp Open House
- Maintains and upkeeps camp facilities and equipment, ensuring safety and cleanliness
- Helps to facilitate camp staff meetings
- Prepares daily camp and group lists, as needed
- Supports YMCA camp events through attendance and assistance with Reach Out for Youth
- Integrates the YMCA "Character Counts" initiative into all programs and services
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Have current CPR & First Aid Certifications
- Desire to learn and positively impact the life of a camper
- Sports coaching: 5 years (preferred)
- Possess and display a consistent positive, upbeat, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude with solid work ethic
- Commitment to work together as part of the staff team in a manner appropriate to the mission, goals, and philosophy of the Hockomock Area YMCA, and to the accepted policies and procedures of the summer camp
program - High level of interpersonal skills, dependability, maturity, creativity, cooperation, patience, initiative, and
resourcefulness - Ability to work independently, or as part of a team, in a positive, cooperative manner
- Ability to effectively plan, organize, and facilitate all camp health care services because of experience and/or training
- Willingness to assume additional responsibilities, and make time commitments, necessary for the implementation of a quality program
- Ability to pass a background check and submit proof of immunizations and physician clearance
