R&D Systems Engineer

As a R&D Systems Engineer you will be responsible for new product definition, system level design and system architecture for Edwards’ CTI and Polycold product lines. You will integrate new cryogenic, refrigeration and vacuum technologies to develop innovative solutions for the semiconductor and diffuse market customers. Main Responsibilities: Define new product architecture (system and subsystem level, control algorithms) that enables cutting-edge solutions and new product features for current and future systems Work closely with marketing product managers, application engineers and define product requirements by understanding the application requirements (performance, process, compliance) Perform functional system modeling of proposed systems to analyze design options and tradeoffs between performance, cost, quality, and reliability Drive/assist with requirements definition for the entire system and subsequent functional requirements decomposition to the sub-system and component level Work closely with technologists to gauge technological maturity and feasibility for reduction to practice in new products Provide technical leadership and support to the development team (may include multiple disciplines such as electrical, software, mechanical engineers, and technicians) during the design, development and evaluation of the new product technologies before market release Stay current on technical & regulatory advances in mixed refrigerants, helium refrigeration, general cryogenics and potentially represent Edwards in industry associations and trade groups Work closely with the Test Engineering team (including defining test strategy, documentation of test procedures, data analysis, verification, compliance, and reports) to help evaluate architecture, design, and performance of new products Help author technical literature and related technical support material for new refrigeration & vacuum technologies/products Explore and leverage technologies from third parties and other PCs that are a part of the larger Edwards / Atlas Copco network Education and Skills: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent with 4+ year of industry experience Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent with 2+ years of industry experience Strong background in one or more of the following - thermodynamic systems, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, controls and instrumentation, industrial automation Familiarity with engineering standards and regulations is preferred (SEMI, ASHRAE, UL, CE, SEMI, PED, ASME and similar) Proficiency in process and system simulation using Aspen, ChemCAD, or equivalent is highly desirable Proficiency with system modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Modellica or similar is highly desirable Familiarity with 2D and 3D finite element modeling techniques to support mechanical and thermal analysis is desirbale Familiarity with industry standard requirements management tools (Jama or similar) is highly desirable Familirity with system industry standard communications protocols is highly desirable Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed team environment, along with the ability to confidently present and articulate technical ideas/results/product definitions to a non-technical audience (leaders of other business functions) Ability to work well with cross functional teams and build consensus within the broader engineering organization Strong analytical, creative problem solving, critical thinking (first principles thinking) and organizational skills Being comfortable with statistical methods such as hypothesis testing, DOE, and SPC is highly desirable What we offer: A friendly, family-like atmosphere Plenty of opportunities to grow and develop A culture known for respectful interaction, ethical behavior, and integrity Potential to see your ideas realized and to make an impact New challenges and new things to learn every day Access to global job opportunities, as part of the Atlas Copco Group An excellent remuneration & benefits package - including competitive salary, a medical plan and achievable variable compensation structure About Edwards Edwards is a leading developer and manufacturer of sophisticated vacuum products, exhaust management systems and related value-added services.
