Our Team We have an exciting leadership opportunity to join the Budget & Financial Investment Planning team as a Financial Manager. In this important role, you will lead the overall coordination of analysis and reporting of O&M Expense and Capital budget performance for the assigned Operations areas. In addition, you will manage the day-to-day analysis and assembly of the monthly report of "actual versus budget", the monthly preparation of projections and preparation of financial reports supplied to the Finance Leadership Team (monthly executive briefing), Operations executive leadership, monthly work plan reviews and to the Chief Operating Officer. In this critical role, you are responsible for the interface between the financial organization and the senior leadership of the assigned business unit. In addition, the incumbent is also responsible for managing the development of different reporting tools, analyses, assigned staff and other financial duties as assigned. The role is based in Westwood, MA or Dorchester, MA. Essential Functions - Assists with the development, analysis and oversight of annual operating budgets and plans. - Serves as liaison between the financial organization and business unit leadership in the area of financial stewardship, achievement of business unit financial goals and evaluation of course correction opportunities. - Prepares, monitors and reports O&M Expense and Capital Expenditure results against plan for the assigned operating area and makes suggestions for course corrections; communicates monthly projections. - Serves as consultant in the area of financial and goal performance to management and other appropriate system personnel. - Manages the centralized monitoring of financial performance including identification and calculation of risks to the achievement of financial targets and goals. - Achieves and influences results by partnering with internal and external business associates - Provides consolidated financial information for the assigned operating area to ensure financial results are explainable and accurate and for inclusion in consolidated reporting - Ensures communication through direct reports to operations management on a regular basis of any specific financial performance information such as "budget versus actual" comparisons. - Ensures an effective budget process including thorough and accurate analyses leading to prompt identification of weaknesses in budget related internal controls and sound recommendations for improvements. - Recommends and implements various cost-saving ideas related to the budget and internal cost management processes. - Supports the development of various regulatory filings and evaluates financial impacts of regulatory decisions and orders as they relate to operation's costs. - Ensures operations management is provided information necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of their operations. - Monitors all action plans and critical path schedules to ensure deadlines are being met - Models standards of excellence including the values of Eversource - Identifies and appropriately addresses obstacles to goal attainment as well as emerging issues within assigned areas. - Manages accurate, timely execution of activities and/or objectives and ensures positive impact on colleagues and customers. - Understands assigned area(s) policies, practices and processes, continually strives for their improvement and ensures effective and safe execution. - Oversees work organization and planning; provides clear communication regarding day-to-day work and/or project assignments; ensures the efficient use of resources and minimization of re-work; eliminates unnecessary and/or ineffective work within the area(s) - Implements annual reviews of areas' compliance-based functions (such as policies, procedures, practices, reporting) to ensure consistent adherence andrecommends/implementschanges and/or needed improvements. - Builds capability across team(s), ensures appropriate training and cross-training, resources and support for the team(s) - Reaches out to and develops productive relationships with customer leaders - comes to understand customers' needs and concerns - works with staff of area(s) to translate those needs and concerns into solutions. - Leads area activities to ensure prompt customer crisis/urgent problem resolution as situations arise; seeks ways to mitigate situations so that crises and problems are minimized. Technical Knowledge/Skills Knowledge: - Knowledge of utility accounting and finance - Knowledge of budget and forecast principles and processes - Knowledge and experience of utility ratemaking theories and processes - Strong knowledge, experience and demonstrated ability in all areas of financial reporting and analyses - Demonstrated ability in managing operating budget and plans and working across functional / organizational boundaries Preferred Knowledge: - Knowledge and experience with Eversource (ES) internal budgeting systems and processes. - Thorough understanding of the ES operations organization. Skills - Ability to effectively lead, manage and develop a diverse workforce. - Extensive resourcefulness to anticipate, define and direct solutions to complex and/or unusual business issues related to the business area. - Extensive analytical skills including the ability to draw sound conclusions and act decisively. - Ability to think and act strategically in a fast-paced environment with frequently shifting and/or conflicting priorities. - Strong team membership, team building and team leadership skills. - Ability to institute, where applicable, current best practices in management - Ability and willingness to initiate and manage change as needed. - Strong functional understanding of computerized business systems - Demonstrated skill with MS Office applications. Education - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or closely-related discipline required - Master's level degree ispreferred Experience - Minimum 10+ years of related experience required which includes managerial, supervisory and/or team leadership experience Compensation and Benefits Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position starts at $136, 860.00 to $152,070.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience.
