Job Summary:

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for supporting the procurement of materials and the planning of production activities while incorporating lean manufacturing principles. This role focuses on reducing waste, improving efficiency, and ensuring the timely availability of materials to support production needs. The ideal candidate will have a background in lean manufacturing, procurement, and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Procurement:
  • Assist in sourcing and purchasing materials, goods, and services required for production and operational activities, emphasizing lean principles.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes, negotiate prices, and ensure cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, addressing any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
  1. Planning:
  • Support the planning and scheduling of production activities based on demand forecasts, inventory levels, and production capacity.
  • Collaborate with production and logistics teams to ensure materials are available as needed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and adjust procurement plans to avoid overstocking or stockouts, following lean methodologies.
  1. Lean Manufacturing:
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles in procurement and planning processes to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and reduce costs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and work with cross-functional teams to implement changes.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records, including tracking stock levels and updating systems.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Implement and monitor inventory control procedures to optimize stock levels, minimizing excess inventory and shortages.
  1. Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Collect and analyze data on procurement, inventory performance, and lean initiatives.
  • Prepare reports on key metrics such as order accuracy, delivery performance, inventory turnover, and lean project outcomes.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements based on data analysis.
  1. Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of purchases, contracts, and supplier information.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing contracts, purchase orders, and other procurement documents.
  1. Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with various departments, including production, logistics, finance, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless operations.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in procurement, buying, planning, or a related role, with exposure to lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, supply chain principles, and lean manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in using ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent experience in lean methodologies is a plus.
