Summary:
Manages a community home or eight or more adults with developmental disabilities Ensures individuals receive high quality support services to aid them in achieving their full potential, while keeping with the agencys mission and philosophy.
Treats individuals with respect and upholds their human rights.
Ensures that staff treat individuals with respect and uphold their human rights.
Advocates and ensures that staff advocate for individuals.
Encourages and ensures that staff encourage individuals to be as independent as possible.
Hires, supervises, evaluates, and terminates house staff.
Provides training and support to house staff.
Guides house staff toward achieving Department of Mental Retardations Home and Home Life goals as well as goals set by Q.U.E.S.T. and Walnut Street Centers mission statement.
Completes or delegates the completion of administrative tasks, including but not limited to: writing reports, staff scheduling, staff payroll, updating of manuals and approval/ reconciliation of petty cash funds, house accounts and representative payee accounts.
Teaches and supervises the teaching of activities of daily living, including but not limited to: social skills, personal routines, financial management.
Oversees and participates in organizing and attending community events in which individuals will participate, which include but are not limited to: medical appointments, shopping, social events, classes, religious activities.
Performs, delegates and supervises case management of individuals, including ISPs.
Serves as a liaison between Agency and the individuals involved family, friends and other support staff.
Implements and oversees the implementation of behavioral interventions.
Performs, oversees and assists staff with crisis intervention.
Physically assists individuals or supervises staff physically assisting individuals with personal routines.
Oversees, delegates and assists in the maintenance of the home(s).
Implements and oversees the implementation of emergency procedures that ensure the safety of the individuals, both in the home and within the community.
Administers and oversees the accurate administration and documentation of administration of medication(s).
Maintains a physically safe work environment and reports work related injuries to Human Resources in a timely and accurate manner.
Attends all required classes and receives a passing score on all required certifications.
Participates in the Management Cluster Team and other staff meetings.
Staffs home(s) in staff shortages and emergencies.
Provides on-call emergency assistance to staff through the use of a pager.
Other Duties:
Prepares program for internal and external evaluations.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Committed to helping individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their maximum potential.
Bachelors degree and one year of experience working in a residential setting for adults with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors or medical needs, or a High School diploma and three years of experience.
Ability to speak, read and write in the English language at at least a twelfth grade level.
Demonstrated aptitude in organization and time management.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Ability to teach house staff to perform their jobs.
Ability to negotiate and problem solve.
Certified or ability to become certified in crisis intervention.
Physical ability to assist adults with disabilities, including performing restraints (varies by location).
Ability to remain calm in an emergency.
Punctual and dependable.
Willingness and ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
