Job DescriptionJob Responsibilities:Assist physician with exams and procedures as requested and as specified in policies and procedures.Assist in physician schedule utilizationSchedule tests, procedures and outside referrals as ordered by physician.Document all patient interactions in chart, return calls as ordered by physician.Draw labs using proper technique and assure the patients are compliant with scheduled lab work.Administer injections as ordered by the Physician.Answer telephone calls from patients.Schedule procedures for patients.Obtain insurance authorizationsFill out relief/patient assistance programs forms.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsThe following are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job: Education: High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required, Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting is preferred.Work Experience: Minimum of one year as a Medical Assistant preferred. Vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience .Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:•Knowledge of health care filed and medical office protocols / procedures•Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families•Knowledge of EHR and general computer systems•Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately•Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions•Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families•Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures•Ability to project a pleasant and professional image•Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks•Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others•Ability to handle problem situations effectively and discreetly•Thorough knowledge of English language, spoken and writtenAdditional InformationJOB RELATIONSHIPS: •Responsible to: Physicians, department supervisor, and CEO•Assignments received from: Physicians, department supervisor, and clinical manager•Nature of supervision received: Direct/Indirect•Positions supervised and nature of supervision: none•Interaction with: patients, patients' family, salespeople (drug reps.), other office staff, various hospital department staff, volunteers, and general publicTYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of timeMust be able to communicate well with verbal instruction, in person and on the phoneRequires full range of body motion including handling and lifiting boxes and equipment up to 25 lbs.Requires correct vision and hearing to normal rangeRequires occasional bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling in officeThis position requires tasks that involve actual or potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues. Universal precautions apply (all people should be assumed to be infectious for blood borne pathogens and take universal precautions to prevent communicable disease transmission).
