Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for maintaining cleanliness? Do you take pride in ensuring a welcoming and safe atmosphere for others? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Housekeeper at Ottawa County

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, you will play a vital role in our mission to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness. Your integrity and attention to detail will be the driving force behind providing both the public and our employees with a clean and welcoming environment.

Important details:

  • The scheduled workdays for this position are flexible.
  • Shifts available would include Monday - Friday, 4:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Average hours per week will average 18 hours.
  • This position cannot exceed 1,000 working hours per year
  • The position is located at the Fillmore Administration Building in West Olive, MI.
  • Must have the ability to pass a background check.


Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conducts the daily cleaning of public areas, offices, conference rooms, courtrooms, breakrooms, restrooms, kitchenettes, and hallways in assigned facilities.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and dusts facility surfaces.
  • Empties trash and recycling receptacles.
  • Restocks supplies in restrooms, break rooms, and kitchenettes.
  • Vacuums, sweeps, and mops the floors.
  • Maintains the work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
  • Configures and sets up table and chair arrangements for meetings in conference rooms.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience

High school diploma or GED.
Additional Requirements and Information

The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, labels on cleaning compounds, SDS data sheets other notices.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and bloodborne protocols.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Commitment to providing quality service to the users of County facilities.
  • Ability to interact positively and constructively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and members of the public with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:
  1. Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, to identify spills and stains requiring intensive cleaning and/or disinfecting.
  2. Must be able to descend to and ascend from floor and ground level several times per day to remove litter and spot clean carpets.
  3. Ability to perform tasks that involve reaching and dusting various items, including file cabinets, light fixtures, and other features, fixtures, and furnishings.
  4. Must be able to ascend/descend stepladders.
  5. Must have sufficient manual strength and dexterity to use brooms, mops, vacuums, and manual carpet sweepers.
  6. Must be able to tolerate exposure to dirt, dust, mold, mildew, and human wastes.
  7. Must be able to tolerate exposure to custodial cleaning products.
  8. Capability to adhere to the use of all necessary safety clothing and equipment as required for the job.

Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to solvents, detergents, disinfectants, other cleaning compounds, mold, dust, dirt, and human wastes. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other disease vectors is also possible.
