Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial and grounds maintenance tasks in and around County owned and operated buildings. Reports to the Maintenance Director.

Examples of Duties

Maintains Courthouse buildings and offices in a clean and orderly condition as prescribed.

Performs general custodial tasks, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors; vacuuming and spot-cleaning carpets; removing trash and sanitizing trash containers; cleaning walls, windows and furniture as needed by dusting, washing and polishing; cleaning restrooms; stocking restroom supplies, etc.

Posts appropriate warnings/signs when persons should be notified of wet floors, wet paint, off-limits areas, etc.

Reports problems or repair needs for buildings or equipment to supervisor.

Operates a variety of equipment such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, etc., and uses various custodial tools and equipment.

Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.

Communicates with immediate supervisor, other department personnel, and the public.

Daily duties include but are not limited to: cleaning entrance glass, bright work, metal surfaces, visible hardware, door thresholds.

Empyting waste and recycle containers, wash trash/recycle containers as required.

Dust all high, low, horizontal and vertical ledges as needed. Dust chairs, tables, windowsills, picture frames, ledges exit signs and all other exposed surfaces.

Vacuum carpets, spot clean carpets as needed, dust mop and wet mop all hard surface floors as needed.

Completely wipe all HVAC vents, report burnt out lights to supervisor, sanitize phones and reception area as needed.

Clean partition glasses, doors, bright work, visible hardware, water fountains and bathrooms.

Emptying and cleaning break room refrigerators.

Weekly duties include but are not limited to: cleaning grate system and tray, cleaning moldings, dusting light fixtures, wiping down HVAC vents and fire extinguisher cabinets, applying restorer to finished floors and burnish as required, cleaning glass cubicle panels as needed, sanitizing door knobs, light switches, push plates and other surfaces as needed.

Monthly duties include but are not limited to: Spot Clean upholstered furniture, spot clean fabric partitions, machine scrub hard surface floors and refinish appropriate flooring as needed, cledan all tables legs and chairs. Cleaning kitchen walls as needed and machine scrub kitchen quarry tile.

Semi-annual duties include but are not limited to machine/hand stripping and refinishing hard surface flooring. Steps are also required. Completely vacuuming fabric partitions.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

May be required to perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including vacuums, carpet cleaners, custodial tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time and perform manual labor. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to fifty pounds.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, equipment manuals, work orders, etc. Requires the ability to prepare simple records and reports with proper format. Must be able to speak with poise, voice control and confidence and to articulate information to others.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations. Requires the ability to make routine independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and the ability to comprehend and implement basic machinery functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers and the public.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals, to determine time and weight.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using cleaning machinery and tools.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items including control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through a telephone

Has knowledge of the various chemical used on the job and is able to use such in a safe and effective manner. Is able to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Is able to offer assistance to fellow employees as necessary. Is able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Has knowledge of how to perform duties in a courteous manner and with the utmost integrity in the best interest of the public. Has knowledge of the standard tools, materials and practices of the trade. Is skilled in the care and use of required tools and equipment. Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Is capable of working under stressful conditions as required. Has knowledge of how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.

Typical Qualifications
