This posting fills an Engineering position in the Track Engineering Division. Incumbent will receive assignments on a variety of ongoing track related projects including testing, design, inspection, process development, documentation, and implementation of asset improvements. Senior Engineers are expected to prepare equipment specifications and procurement contracts; develop concepts of operations, system requirements, plans, and specifications; be familiar with current code requirements, and industry practices. Senior Engineers are responsible for design integration, QA/QC, and coordinating the development of project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates. Assignments include exercising lead supervision over BART and/or contracted staff, leading projects, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure high-quality designs. A candidate’s overall experience should include work in field reliability, process improvement, design, inspection, and maintenance with desirable skills in civil engineering with track engineering as the main discipline. This position requires frequent work in the field, working alongside BART’s track crews performing project work. Ideal incumbents will demonstrate the following skills beyond the minimum qualifications: Experience in successful value stream mapping, continuous improvement, and lean activities regarding various production processes. Ability to work with staff at different levels and create team environment that facilitates process changes. Ability to facilitate troubleshooting efforts and team meetings. Excellent problem-solving ability. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to make clear presentations, produce concise technical reports, and explain complex/technical track related issues to BART management and leaders. Ability to work successfully with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to handle such diverse aspects of the work as project scoping, planning, budgeting, requirements analysis, conceptual engineering, detailed track design, implementation planning, track construction and installation coordination, performance measurement, and analysis. Understanding of Critical path method scheduling. Experience with track data collection and analysis to document the safe operating speed of trains, system and equipment performance and asset reliability . Must be willing to work overtime, nights and/or weekends as required. Must be able to work with and in close proximity to moving trains and live electrical equipment. Willingness to work nights 5 days per week to support on-going track engineering projects; in addition, willingness to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (in rotation with others) to work occasionally outside of routine days and time and to work occasionally in noisy and dirty environments or in foul weather.
