Job Summary

The Materials Planner will ensure the facility has all product, material, equipment and supplies needed to operate efficiently in alignment with policies and standards. They will oversee and coordinate receiving, handling, warehousing and inventory counts of raw material.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain raw material inventory levels for Extrusion department
  • Lead daily material variance reporting efforts and investigate and troubleshoot cycle count variances
  • Participate in the creation or update of procedural SOPs if / when required to help prevent future inventory discrepancies
  • Partner with Compound Plant Department to forecast inventory levels, coordinate orders/deliveries, and prevent material outages
  • Understand and use various inventory system functions related to inventory management such as purchase order receipts, inventory adjustments, transfer order entries, physical inventory count/entry, bill of material (BOM), etc.
  • Notify the Plant Manager of capacity shortages or excesses, anticipated back orders and/or disruption to expected service
  • Notify Production Manager and/or Scheduler of interruption in service that causes items to be out of stock due to man, machine or quality problems
  • Review daily cycle counts and report on weekly cycle count results
  • Ensure timely entry for inventory adjustments and file all documents and records for all inventory adjustments
  • Lead, participate, record, and report monthly and annual physical inventory counts
  • Participate in daily validation of raw material and pipe production
  • Investigate inbound material discrepancies
  • Ensure timely receipt of delivered raw material purchase orders/transfer orders and filing of all paperwork
  • Monitor, review, and update product bill of material (BOM) as necessary to ensure proper material usage data
  • Receive and forward Safety Data Sheets to proper personnel, as needed
Qualifications & Experience
  • 3 or more years' experience in Material Requirements Planning or Inventory Control, ideally in a manufacturing environment
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain or Manufacturing field
  • Strong computer skills, including in Microsoft Excel, experience with SAP is an asset
  • Excellent problem solving skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various departments and teams
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as needed
