ResponsibilitiesA phlebotomist is a trained supportive person who obtains venous, finger; heel punctures blood specimens for clinical laboratory examination. This staff member performs order entry functions in the laboratory computer system, performs Drug Free Workplace and Post Accident collection and testing. The compensation range for the role is $20.24- $28.32 hourly.Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. When determining a team member's compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity)QualificationsMinimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of phlebotomy course with at least 120 hours of clinical rotation in a medical arena or completion of phlebotomy course and appropriate experience of at least one year. Minimum Experience: One year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred, new graduates will be considered with recommendation from instructor. Must demonstrate excellent phlebotomy skill and knowledge. Evening and night shift phlebotomists must have significant experience with all age groups.Required Certification/Registration: ASCP certification preferred. Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be light work requiring lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required. Requires 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word is required.Working Conditions:Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 25 lbs.Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
