Job Description

This position is the primary point of contact between contractors on site doing work and project managers. This role is responsible for being an extra set of eyes and ears for the project managers who may not always be on the construction site. It is expected that construction coordinators will coordinate disciplines, cover for each other during absences, and bring problems and proposed changes to the attention of Project Managers and will act on Project Manager's behalf when required.

Responsibilities

General
  • Work to Develop a culture of Safe execution of project work on the site.
  • Interact with unit stewardship leaders to develop safe work execution plans
  • Monitor job contractors to assure that they meet or exceed site safety standards and Actively intervene when workers are unsafe.
  • Be a champion of the project process. Explain actions required to implement projects to internal project customers
  • Work closely with plant engineers, contractors, and team members to achieve project success
  • Secondary Job Contact for projects
Pre Construction
  • Provide feedback into the constructability of proposed designs (During Design) based on experience and knowledge of applicable standards.
  • Review, comment, and verify construction estimating,
  • Perform job walks for all contractors
  • Support pre-engineering activities such as contractor bid and constructability reviews
  • Assist Engineering with Construction Plan Development
  • Assist Engineering with Construction Schedule Development
  • Coordinate activities between engineering maintenance and construction
    • Support safety plans & EIP development
    • Coordinate calibration and checkout of instrumentation before construction
    • Follow up on ordered materials.
    • Be engaged with vendors/contractors providing services to the project
      • Assist with mobilization of contractors and equipment
    • Support Pre-Construction project safety reviews
    • Help facilitate transition of work from internal to external contractors (TA Transitions)
Construction
  • Review Contractor safety procedures with outside contractors at the start of the Job
  • Read and fully understand engineering construction packages and other documents which describe the scope of work to be done
  • Understand EIPs for projects and manage contractors to keep them in compliance.
  • Support job contractors during mobilization and jobsite set up
  • Sign off on time sheets for contractors providing services in the event that PMs are not available.
  • Work with the Contractor to understand field installation details and Construction Plans
  • Provide field support throughout the lifecycle of each project
  • Assure that construction work complies with all Celanese procedures and standards
  • Participate in Identification and tracking errors and root causes throughout project implementation.
  • Bring Required changes to Detailed Design to the attention of project managers
    • Champion Effective change & Cost management
  • Identify changes to the Construction plans and flag change orders where needed. -
  • Develop and follow construction punch lists as projects progress.
Post Construction
  • Follow construction punch list items through to completion.
  • Help get rental equipment & temporary construction facilities demobilized and off of the site as quickly as possible
    • Contact materials coordinator to get equipment demobilized
  • Follow jobsite cleanup and return the construction site to "normal"
  • Ensure Construction Checkout forms are properly filled out before the PSSR & give to Project Engineer
  • Observe and support job contractors through demobilization
Qualifications
  • 10+ years industrial experience working in the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Experience in industrial construction methods as currently used in chemical manufacturing facilities
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control methods for piping and mechanical systems
  • Experience overseeing groups of contractors during construction
  • Outdoor work experience, able to wear required PPE and drive safely to jobsite, and to walk and climb at the jobsite as needed to oversee the construction site work
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with Internal and External associates
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of SAP a plus
