Description:

Our client headquartered in Virginia is seeking a Principal Missile Airframe Engineer based in Huntsville, AL. The Principal Missile Airframe Engineer reports to the Manager of Engineering and offers a hybrid workplace. The Principal Missile Airframe Engineer will provide missile airframe engineering leadership and serve as a technical expert for missile and projectile airframe designs.

The ideal candidate has proven expertise with design and analysis tools associated with airframe design and performed analysis to assess compliance throughout the system development cycle. Possesses effective technical writing, presentation and communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis of airframe structural performance and platform compatibility to identify and allocate mission, system and subsystem requirements
  • Responsible for all aspects of interfaces to host platforms or howitzers
  • Lead airframe design reviews to ensure airframe definition provides a balanced design and reflects requirements for all elements
  • Collaborate with Aerodynamicists, Guidance and Control Designers, Mechanical Engineers and Structural Analysts to lead an all-inclusive SE approach to airframe design
  • Provide comprehensive indentured framework of requirements for use as performance, design, interface, support, production, cost and test criteria
  • Interface with Systems Engineers, Structural Analysts, Guidance and Control Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Aerodynamicists to support full system design and development
  • Perform technical coordination, direction, review and status of complete airframe design work package on advanced projects
  • Support proposals, development, define and develop scope of work and engineering concepts for advanced projects
  • Ensure program and technical milestones are met and coordinate analysis and assessment of compliance with customer, program and system requirements throughout the product development cycle
  • Conduct trade studies for the development and optimization of airframe concepts and architectures in support of new and existing programs
  • Provide technical coordination and direction for Engineering as outlined by management

Skills/Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience in methodologies and processes for guided missile and guided projectile airframe requirements development verification to include modeling, analysis and testing
  • Expertise with design and analysis tools associated with airframe design
  • Proficient in developing detailed airframe designs including airframe requirements definition, airframe trades studies/optimization, airframe integration and test & tracking of weight, CG and MOI budgets
  • Experience in system architecture development, requirements analysis, flow-down, generation of specifications, design verification and procurement
  • Proficient with CFD, preferably STAR-CCM+
  • MATLAB, C++ or other high order computer programming language
  • Abaqus FEA a plus
  • May require conducting activities in an Engineering Lab or Production manufacturing location

Qualifications:

  • 12+ Years of experience in Airframe Design (NX a plus)
  • 8+ Years of experience in Missile (or Guided Projectile) Design & Development
  • Bachelors degree from accredited four-year College or University in Engineering (Masters a plus)
  • Must have active US Secret Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain
