Job Summary
Under general direction, the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Senior Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, environmental health and safety programmatic content and providing professional consultation and technical expertise associated with environmental, health and occupational safety matters. The EHS Senior Manager works with internal and external stakeholders to provide a safe environment and to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State of Texas rules and regulations.
The EHS Senior Manager develops and implements programs within the organization with broad scope to include ongoing continuous improvement of its compliance programs and training methods. The EHS Senior Manager will assist department management with identifying trends and recommend options to reduce frequency and severity of issues related to environmental health and safety. Incumbents will lead the development and maintenance of programs and work with department managers on developing and improving environmental health and occupational safety programs. The senior level classification may supervise and/or act as a lead to other staff members.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures that affect clients and/or employees, applying them fairly and consistently; ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations; and applies best practices that are in direct support of the overall vision, mission, and goals of the organization and/or College. Is knowledgeable about and can clearly represent own area of responsibility, seeking new knowledge and tools to advance the objectives of the organization.
- Ability to maintain consistent and positive customer relations, responding to internal/external customer inquiries in an efficient and timely manner. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity and values differences. Promotes positive staff, customer, and community relations by communicating organizational and departmental plans and priorities on a regular basis.
- Ability to foster collaboration, develop networks and build alliances with diverse stakeholders and constituents to achieve common goals. Ability to work as part of a team and participate in team projects to ensure timelines are met. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, including understanding of applicable technology, processes, and procedures. Develops, publicizes, and garners support for programs, initiatives, and policies by meeting with key internal and external stakeholders. Partners with key individuals from various functional units throughout the organization in development of strategic operational goals.

- Responsible for providing professional and comprehensive development, implementation and coordination of programs and standards in the areas of environmental health and occupational safety intended to reduce the frequency and severity of issues related to environmental health and occupational safety. This includes the responsibility for the development, implementation, interpretation and management of short-term and long-term techniques, policies procedures and programs designed to identify, analyze, and mitigate environmental health and occupational safety hazards associated with college activities and initiatives. May act as lead to other staff.
- Provide guidance and direction to the College community on best practices that will mitigate risk as well as monitor trends and provide strategic direction that will result in fewer losses to person, property, and reputation. Directs the development, management and implementation of policies and programs in order to mitigate environmental health and occupational health hazards. Oversee programs designed to monitor, inspect, and ensure compliance with corrective or preventive actions taken to lessen or remove environmental health and occupational safety hazards.
- Conduct in-depth risk assessments covering life safety, fire prevention, worker safety, environmental protection, laboratory safety and hazardous materials to identify hazards at each of the college's locations and reduce those hazards through collaboration, training and education and development of environmental health and occupational safety programs and materials.
- Contributes to the development of departmental budget and monitors vendor performance against funding and expense requirements.
- In the event of unscheduled closures due to weather events and/or other circumstances, the incumbent in this position is considered "essential personnel" during and after such events or circumstances.
- Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed both within a standard office environment and in the field environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Regular travel between all Dallas College locations using a personal vehicle and/or a college vehicle is required. Position involves occasional bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds while performing job duties. Walking, climbing ladders, entering cramped and difficult locations and dusty/dirty environments, may be part of routine activities depending on work locations. Working hours may vary and occasional evening and/or weekend work is required. Occasional lifting, guiding and/or carry of materials may be required. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise, and temperature extremes. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree higher in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or related degree preferred plus four (4) years of related work experience or an associate degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related degree preferred with a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience is required.
- Industry certifications in Associate Safety Professional, Graduate Safety Practitioner, Certified Safety Professional, Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician, or related certification preferred.
- Must have a valid driver valid driver license and obtain a valid State of Texas driver license within ninety (90) days of employment if hired for the position.
- Official transcripts will be required.
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
