Why our Underwriter is Important:

EPIC provides Temporary Disability Insurance to Hawai`i’s workers, and our Underwriter analyzes the risk associated with insuring Hawai`i’s businesses. While adhering to underwriting guidelines and pricing strategies that support strategic objectives and annual budget goals, our Underwriter determines premiums, issues, and binds policies.

Essential Duties

Reviews and evaluates TDI submissions; determines appropriate rate and pricing. Responds to inquiries and service requests from agents and policyholders. Adheres to underwriting guidelines, manuals, policies & procedures, best practices, and service standards. Establishes good rapport with agents to promote positive relationships. Assists all company personnel to further the goal of outstanding customer service. Collaborates with all functional departments to achieve strategic, tactical and project goals. Represents the EPIC UW Cross-Sell team when collaborating with the HEMIC Family of Companies. Ensures management is kept fully informed of emerging issues, regulatory changes, and competitive market developments. Occasional travel outside the office may be required to attend customer and agent meetings or to attend seminars. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

These requirements should be tied to the duties performed to avoid claims that these are “paper” requirements. The established requirements should be job-related and consistent with the company’s business necessity. Undergraduate Degree (Preferred) Technical knowledge of TDI coverage, pricing and market intel. Minimum of five years of TDI experience, insurance or otherwise (employer, PEO, etc.) (Preferred) Industry certification such as CPCU or AU (Preferred) Ability to make quick decisions and have good judgment and analytical skills. Self-motivated, confident and high energy level with strong work ethic. Able to work under time constraints and deadlines. Work cooperatively with others. Strong negotiation skills. Strong oral, written and formal presentation skills.
