Position Summary:
The Sr Category Manager is a leader in their category with strong industry relationships. They are a confident communicator with an ability to influence through story telling. They are passionate about driving results and developing others. They are responsible for delivering profitable sales growth of their assigned meat category(s) for AWG and our Members. They will collaborate with others across the AWG organization, vendor partners and members. The Sr Category Manager owns strategic decisions within their category to include program development, assortment, category analysis, vendor negotiations, promotional planning, procurement, private brands and innovation to achieve market share growth. They ensure programs are on trend with the industry, utilizing syndicated market data, consumer research and experience in decision making while delivering quality and value.
Description of Work:
- Develop and implement key category strategies to maximize sales and profitability for AWG and AWG members across Processed Meat categories.
- Develop sales growth programs aligned to category and consumer trends.
- Conduct category reviews to maximize category assortment and set category strategies.
- Create joint business plans and business reviews with vendor partners.
- Partner with Division Sales Teams to meet the business needs of the members.
- Partner with AWG Brands Team to manage the AWG Private Brands assortment including product development to drive profitable category sales.
- Plan and negotiate promotions with vendor partners to ensure competitive, sales driving opportunities for AWG members.
- Partner with Promotions Manager to manage and execute vendor programs and funding.
- Communicate and interact with all cross functional departments (Procurement, Accounting, Marketing, AWG Brands, Division teams, Operations, and others).
- 20% travel required: primary travel is to AWG members' retail locations and warehouse distribution centers, vendor partner locations, division sales meetings, and trade-related events.
- College degree and retail store experience preferred.
- Minimum 10 years Consumer Products Goods or related industry experience across Perishables, Meat or Grocery in Category Management.
- Demonstrated expertise in syndicated data (IRI/Circana and Nielsen).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or GSuite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and BI Tools (Power Bi, Tableau).
- Assortment and planogram experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to create selling stories to grow distribution.
- Detail orientated with project management and organizational skills.
- Excels at building effective relationships across a diverse population.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including presentation development and delivery.
- Able to work collaboratively with internal & external teams.
- Less than 20% travel required: primary travel is to AWG members' retail locations and distribution centers.
