Director of Finance

ACT Theatre has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Finance (DoF) to join our team. ACT is an integral part of the Seattle community and has supported local artists for almost six decades. Our Finance team is a key component of supporting ACT as a creative voice of the Pacific Northwest. This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a creative, innovative artistic organization that highly values its employees.

The incoming DoF aids our artists, administrative staff, and all of the ACT community with strengthening our financial strategy. The DoF is a valued member of ACTs senior leadership team. This position reports to ACTs Managing Director and when that position is not filled, to ACTs General Manager.

This position is responsible for effectively managing and communicating all financial matters with the Board and senior leadership team. In addition, the DoF directs policies and procedures related to fixed assets, revenue, and cash flow management, insurance, risk management, purchasing, and organization wide cost-benefit analysis. Due to current finance operations, the DoF position is a fully onsite position.

The ideal candidate is experienced in change management best practices, highly collaborative, and views the Finance department as a service-oriented contributor to an organization.

Roles & Responsibilities

Ensure that optimal internal controls and reporting systems are properly designed, maintained, and provide meaningful and timely information that is organized and continuously monitored

Design, analyze, and present financial reports, forecasts, updates, graphic visuals, and other information in a clear, accurate, and timely manner

Manage rolling monthly forecasts

Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements to staff and Board

Ensure that transaction systems (including billing, membership, sales, and event ticketing) are efficient, fully integrated, and accurate

Institute a rigorous financial planning and analysis process to determine areas of potential revenue enhancement, cost reduction, program/production improvement, and policy change

Manage cash flow needs, including building a monthly cash flow plan with detailed revenue and expenditure planning across all departments of the organization

Manage banking, credit, and investment relationships

Work transparently with all external partners, third-party vendors, and consultants

Hire, train, and supervise finance department staff

Serve as primary point of contact to coordinate and lead audit, and work effectively with independent auditors for annual financial audit

Oversee and assure accurate 990 filing

Oversee timely and accurate filing of employment taxes

Attend monthly board meetings and quarterly foundation board meetings

Head up the modernization and streamlining of critical accounting and payroll systems, in partnership with the Director of People & Culture

Participate in intentional learning efforts, including events relating to understanding institutional racism, building cultural competency, and exhibiting a commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging

Experience & Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related field, MBA or CPA strongly preferred

Minimum of 3 years of broad non-profit financial management experience, ideally with final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination

Highly skilled in change management, works successfully with diverse individuals, demonstrates active listening skills and a growth mindset

Well versed in continuous process improvement and how to collaboratively create systemic improvements in efficiency and overall financial operations

Successful track record of keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making and demonstrable analytic abilities

Experienced in grants management

Abila (MIP) fund accounting software experience strongly preferred

Familiarity with Tessitura or similar CRM programs

Highly proficient with Excel

Strong understanding of GAAP

Strong written and verbal communication, and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Evident ethics and integrity

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality

Demonstrate the initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote anti-racism, cultural competency, and an understanding of oppression and its impact

Compensation

ACT provides a competitive compensation package with an annual salary of $130,000. Medical, vision, and dental insurance are available, 11 paid holidays, 403b plan, access to $5 downtown Seattle parking, and free tickets to ACTs incredible productions. PTO begins at 20 days per year in addition to Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time accrual.
