Description

The Hall Director is responsible for coordinating general housing operations, student staff supervision, conduct, on call responsibilities, and creating and maintaining a comprehensive living-learning program for students residing in Ylvisaker Hall. This position is a .83 FTE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating undergraduate student staff.
  • Being visible and accessible to students.
  • Administering housing operations including check in, check out, room changes, facilities usage, occupancy, service center operations, and duty coverage.
  • Maintaining accurate housing records and files.
  • Coordinating student learning, community development, and personal development activities within the residence halls.
  • Assessing the residence hall environment to determine its impact on students.
  • Interpreting college policies and procedures to students.
  • Serving as a conduct officer; ensuring that the discipline process is fairly and efficiently administered.
  • Consulting with and advising students and small groups on issues affecting college students; making appropriate referrals to other offices.
  • Serving as the on-call contact for hall emergencies; weekend leaves (up to two per month) and overnight absences require prior approval from the Director of Residence Life.
  • Participating in residence life staff and student life staff meetings, staff development sessions, committees, and task forces.
  • Administering the hall program budget.
  • Assisting with the room draw process.
  • Assisting with other Residence Life Office and Student Life Office duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Two Assistant Hall Directors and 14 Resident Assistants
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
  • Education: Master's degree in college student personnel, counseling, or higher education preferred; Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience: Previous residence life experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
  • Other Requirements: An appreciation for the distinctive mission of residential, church-affiliated, liberal arts colleges; strong commitment to the educational potential of the residence halls; good verbal, written communications, and organizational skills; the ability to establish relationships with individual from a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints; and a willingness to live and work in the residence halls and assume 24-hour on-call responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Physical Skills Required: Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time, but may also involve frequent walking or standing
  • Includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or the ability to lift, carry, push or pull or otherwise move objects with a negligible amount of force.
  • Atmosphere/Environment: Pleasant, smoke free, air conditioned in summer and comfortably warm in winter.
