Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a background in non-profit organizations to join our team. The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, managing grants and donations, and providing strategic financial guidance to the organization's leadership. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the non-profit sector while utilizing your expertise in accounting principles and regulations specific to non-profit entities.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Provide variance analysis and explanations for budgeted versus actual financial performance to aid in decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations for non-profit organizations.

Grant and Donation Management:

  • Oversee the administration of grants and donations, including tracking expenditures, preparing financial reports for funders, and ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Work closely with program managers to develop budgets for grant proposals and monitor spending against grant budgets.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with department heads to develop annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide insights to support budget management and resource allocation decisions.
  • Financial Analysis and Strategic Planning:
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, providing recommendations to enhance financial performance and sustainability.
  • Assist in the development of financial strategies and initiatives to support the organization's mission and goals.
  • Audit and Compliance:
  • Coordinate annual financial audits and ensure timely completion of audit requirements.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering their professional development and growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational initiatives and projects requiring financial expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with specific experience in non-profit accounting and financial management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Excel; experience with donor management systems is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards (e.g., FASB), including fund accounting principles and grant compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
