Job Description Team Leader, Short Term Disability- REMOTE - ( 22000574 ) **Description**

**Position Objective:**

The STD Team Leader is responsible for ensuring that all STD claims are accurately and fairly adjudicated according to plan provisions, established best practices and within state and federal guidelines. The Team Leader is also responsible for delegating, distributing and monitoring claim volumes within the department. The Team Leader must be able to manage and resolve issues that pertain to claim administration procedures, claim management activities, reports and quality. The Team Leader will serve as primary resource for the team and provide direction to the staff by setting objectives, communicating progress, and holding the staff accountable for overall performance.

**Major Opportunities and Decisions:**

* Delegate, distribute and monitor the claim volumes within the department to meet turnaround times, and balance caseloads to reduce backlogs

* Ensure that workflows, procedures, and best practices are followed to improve accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of claim management

* Meet with direct reports regularly to provide performance feedback and address developmental issues; monitor staff to ensure adherence to company and departmental guidelines

* Ensure STD guidelines and workflows are current, and any changes are communicated to staff and applicable business partners

* Address Sales and other internal/external concerns and customer service related issues in a professional and timely manner

* Responsible for meeting key service deliverables for turnaround times, quality assurance and overall customer experience

**Principal Accountabilities:**

Managing People

* Develop and communicate objectives and performance goals for staff

* Meet with direct reports regularly to provide performance feedback and address developmental issues while developing talent

* Coordinate performance issues and concerns with HR

* Ensure STD guidelines and workflows are current, and any changes are communicated to staff and applicable business partners

Managing Processes

* Identify areas for efficiency by reviewing process and eliminating unnecessary steps

* Monitor claim turnaround times to ensure decisions are made within established guidelines

* Ensure quality results are within established guidelines and provide necessary feedback to teams

* Ensure adherence to claim management protocols in an effort to drive positive claim outcomes and return to work opportunities

**Skills and Knowledge:**

* Excellent organizational and time management skills

* Excellent math aptitude and analytical skills

* Professional oral and written communication skills

* Strong customer service skills

* Working knowledge of disability product, contracts and claim procedures

* Guardian systems knowledge preferred

* Familiarity with mandated state and federal regulations

**Education and Experience:**

* College degree in a related field and/or equivalent relevant disability work experience

* Previous leadership experience in decision making, trouble shooting, staff development related skills and abilities

* Minimum 5 years Short Term Disability Claims experience

**Location & Vaccination Requirements:**

* The primary location for this position is remote, with an at home work arrangement.

* Covid 19 vaccinations not required unless you voluntarily visit one of our campus locations or are attending an in-person company sponsored event.
