Summary of Duties: Works in collaboration with the physician to assess the physical needs of patient's medical type. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical results to physician. Performs follow ups with patients to continue implementation of the plan of care determined by the physician. Also expected to build and maintain excellent relationships with referral sources. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is potentially available based on abilities.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

A. Diagnosis

1. Ability to diagnose illnesses and conditions in patients appropriately.

2. Work independently to analyze symptoms and conduct tests on patients to determine a diagnosis.

3. Obtain detailed medical history; assess and evaluate patients.

4. Work as part of a team with healthcare professionals to draw conclusions about the patient's condition.

5. Perform and/or organize diagnostic asks and orders including lab work, x-rays, and other advanced testing.

6. Interpret diagnostic tests appropriately to determine therapies.

7. Become proficient at using injections, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy to aid in diagnosing conditions.

B. Treatment

1. Responsible for appropriately treating illnesses or injuries based on their previous diagnosis.

2. Ability to perform as the patient's primary orthopaedic treating provider if necessary.

3. Perform routine injections for treatments.

C. Prescriptions

1. Prescribe medications appropriately for patients to treat an illness or prevent pain from an injury.

2. Administer proper medications with correct dosage.

3. Monitor and assess the responses of patients to medications.

4. Prescribe medications to the extent delegated and licensed.

5. Help monitor and improve documentation of prescribed medicines.

D. Documentation

1. Appropriately maintain, review, and assess medical records of patients.

2. Thoroughly and proficiently document history and physicals, examinations, plans of care, orders, and interpretation of tests on all patients.

3. Collaborate with physician in creating EMR templates for ongoing surgical reports, protocols, consultations, etc.

4. Perform all documentation timely.

E. Education and Prevention

1. Educate patients on health issues and teach prevention especially on specialty specific health issues and treatments appropriately.

2. Collaborate with the physician to create appropriate educational tools including brochures, etc.

3. Assist the physician with updating the web site and other communication modalities.

4. Maintain all required educational units for PA licensure and certification, OSHA, HIPAA, and orthopaedic specialty practice.

F. Research & Other Specialty Duties

1. Assist the physician in identifying appropriate health markers for the specialty appropriate for research.

2. Identify and document appropriately data for future research projects.

3. Review, extract, collate, and interpret healthcare data appropriately for the purpose of research.

4. Work as an ambassador the practice and the services it provides through utilizing opportunities to create, maintain, and grow referral relations.

5. Able to perform independently in identifying and incorporating special projects that improve/grow the practice.

  • 2+ years experience working in an orthopaedic hand setting is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree, pus successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certified Physician's Assistant (NCCPA) required
  • Active Colorado PA License or ability to obtain
