This position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual who is looking to work on a multimillion-dollar transportation infrastructure projects for various clients including District Department of Transportation and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. The position will require extensive client interaction, working with stakeholders, designers, contractors, utility companies and permit agencies in DC. In addition, the position will also require supervisory responsibilities of the staff.

The ability to work collaboratively with others, to work with a diverse staff, and to make mistakes but learn from them are important considerations for selection.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Project Manager position include:
  1. Assists the Project Executive and the client, with receiving, reviewing, and routing correspondence from the client and contractors.
  2. Tracks correspondence response dates, prepares periodic reports of action items, and occasionally prepares draft correspondence for the Project Executive.
  3. Coordinates with all project stakeholders to research information or questions and responds accordingly.
  4. Joins with others from an engineering, architectural, design or construction perspective to help to define the scope of work, to draft requests for proposals, or to support the advertising, evaluating and award of the contract.
  5. Will lead discussion regarding contractor's cost reasonableness; may be asked for opinion regarding overall price or an item of cost.
  6. Will lead discussion regarding contractor's baseline or look-ahead schedule; may be asked for opinion regarding any schedule changes.
  7. Visits the project construction site on a regular schedule or as needed; work progress or problems that may affect cost or schedule; may take project photos, label them and posts them in project management information system (PMIS); post the IDR in PMIS and discusses the report with the Project Executive; may be asked to follow-up on certain items.
  8. Attends regular project progress meetings with the contractor and the client/project executive; follow-up on certain action items.
  9. Assists in the preparation of periodic briefings to senior leadership about a project or the overall program.
  10. If project disputes arise, the Project Manager will research particular issues relating to schedule variances, change orders and proposed change orders, liquidated damages, or liability for architect/engineers' errors and omissions
  11. Attend/lead public hearings or meetings.
  12. Participates in overall Departmental safety program.
  13. Complete document controls of the project.

Position Requirements
  1. 10+ years of project and construction management experience.
  2. A Bachelor's degree in engineering or, for architects, a Master of Architecture degree or, for construction managers, a bachelor's degree in construction management from an accredited institution. In Lieu of an accredited degree, two years of comparable engineering, construction or architecture work may substitute for the engineering, construction management or architecture degree.
  3. Preferred to have at least one of the following: Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Construction Manager, Project Management Professional
  4. Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff.
  6. Basic knowledge of scheduling principles and familiarity with scheduling software such as MS Project/P6; ability to discern critical activities; ability to determine what has caused delays to critical activities.
  7. Familiarity with project management collaborative software such as Prolog or other similar software.
  8. Proficiency with and intermediate working facility with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  9. Knowledge of estimating guides such as RS Means and ability to prepare independent estimates or to research specific item costs.
  10. Knowledge of construction contracting principles and practices.
  11. Have or ability to obtain OSHA 10-hour safety class certification within 60 days
  12. Experience in evaluating and negotiating change orders
