Job Summary:

The Welding Engineer provides technical expertise with welding and joining of metal assemblies. This includes development of procedures, formulating supporting documentation, monitoring weld quality, failure analysis of welded products, and conducting internal training related to welding activities. As part of the Quality Dept., the Welding Engineer addresses non-conforming product, interacts with vendors with regard to quality-related issues, completes corrective actions, and conducts continuous improvement activities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Program and Operate robotic welders, with both online and offline programming. Willingness to complete off site robotic and programming training courses. Experience programming Fanuc or Motorman robots a plus, but not necessary.
  • Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
  • Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints etc.
  • Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Degree in Welding Engineering
  • Desire and ability to learn advanced robotic operation and programming.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of welding science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the welding and fabrication of various products.
  • Excellent mechanical and robotic aptitude.
  • A positive attitude.
  • Strong ability to multi-task.
  • A sense of urgency with the ability to finish work efficiently and accurately in a high paced environment.
  • Exposure to robotics and/or automation.
  • Physical ability to safely climb onto and around the equipment.
  • Knowledge and physical ability to safely drive and operate the machinery.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering
  • 3-5 years in an engineering/manufacturing environment recommended.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse the production facility.
