The Flight Avionics Team provides Electrical Systems Engineering to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our team develops missile Flight Avionics Hardware. Our core electrical engineering responsibilities include architecture, analysis, requirements, integration, and test. Our core electrical engineering technologies include RF/RADAR, Navigation/IMU/GPS, Digital, and Power. We partner with several Electrical Product Team departments that provide the detailed design of our electrical products as well as missile level systems teams.
The Flight Avionics Team is searching for a Navigation/IMU engineer with experience in selecting IMUs for insertion into navigation subsystems. The Navigation/IMU Engineer shall demonstrate understanding and wide application of technical theories and concepts in IMU, and navigation subsystems/components used in modern guidance electronics platforms. The Navigation/IMU Engineer will interface directly with suppliers of navigation or guidance electronics components, IMUs to monitor and manage programmatic activities and ensure compliance to requirements. Familiarity with the principals of Optical Gyroscopes, Coriolis Gyroscopes and acceleration sensors is desired. Familiarity with Ring Laser Gyros, Fiber Optic gyros and IMU MEMS technology, is a plus . Familiarity with the GPS system and GPS technology and how it works within a navigation system is a plus .
What You Will Do
- Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include labs, field work, or a combination.
- Assignments may include supporting programs with IMU selection, testing of IMUs, analysis of IMU performance, interface with IMU suppliers, developing and documenting IMU requirements and test plans; peer reviews of designs as a subject matter expert; presentations to peers, management, and government customers; and root-cause failure investigations.
- Missile Systems has a strong culture of mentoring; it is expected that employees will be both mentors and mentees.
- Ability to "fault-tree" out an issue to focus/prioritize activities and resources
- Assignments may require supporting multiple programs.
- Assignments may require some travel, including foreign travel.
- Work within a multi-disciplined team.
- Work independently, with little supervision.
- Develop a network and know when to use it to get help.
- Collaboration with both Functional and Program higher level leadership.
- Collaboration with Customer and Suppliers.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
- Experience in sub-systems, systems engineering, requirement development and/or requirement validation with respect to Inertial Sensors and Systems selection and product insertion into guidance and navigation systems.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value:
- Missile systems typically contain IMUs, GPSs. Guidance and Navigation computers and seekers and sensors. The ideal candidate will have a background in how these components are put together in a system to guide a missile to a target. Ideal candidates will also have some experience in systems engineering and architecture and have a desire to grow into a guidance section architect.
- Experience with Fiber Optic gyros, Ring Laser Gyros and MEMs gyros.
- Experience with mechanical and solid-state accelerometers.
- Experience working with missiles or similar systems.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Ability to drive suppliers in meeting commitments.
- Knowledge of DOD Hardware development process (knowledge of design gates).
- Practical experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle.
- Experience in developing proposals.
