About the role
The Director of Construction plays a critical role in managing and setting high standards for their team. They will contribute to strategic decision-making processes, offering valuable insights and expertise to help shape the organization's construction roadmap and long-term vision.
A primary aspect of this role involves actively engaging with both existing and potential clients to cultivate strong relationships and promote the organization's construction services. By effectively communicating the value proposition and unique capabilities of the company, the Director will contribute to expanding the client base and fostering long-term partnerships. These interactions will require exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as a deep understanding of the construction industry and market trends.
The Director of Construction will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practices to optimize construction processes, enhance efficiency, and maximize resource utilization. This includes actively monitoring project progress, analyzing data, and providing insightful recommendations to senior management regarding potential areas for improvement or cost-saving measures.
What you'll do
This position will be responsible for the following essential duties and functions.
Provide technical support to project managers
HR responsibilities for construction team (12 staff)
Eliminating and assisting in setting schedules
Business development and client retention
Review of weekly and monthly reports on status and progress of contracts, including project costs and potential challenges
Report to CEO and other stakeholders the status of projects
Attend client meetings, as needed
Qualifications
This position requires the following skills and qualifications.
Bachelor's Degree in construction management, architecture or other related discipline
Five (5) or more years of project management and estimating experience working in the construction industry, required
Experience with large commercial sites, such as manufacturing facilities and other industrial construction
Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
Knowledge of construction technology including Procore, scheduling software and tracking job progress
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
Leadership ability with an organized, proactive and results oriented management style
Strong communicator at all levels across the organization and with clients and subcontractors
Problem solver who takes ownership of solutions for field staff and subcontractors
Safety excellence, fostering a great safety culture with OSHA 30 training preferred
