Audiologist

Job Summary:

Administers and interpret a variety of tests to determine type and degree of hearing impairment, makes a diagnosis and implements or coordinates habilitation and rehabilitation services for patient.

Routine duties shall include providing audiology testing and related health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Based on knowledge of audiological principles and professional experience will have full professional responsibility for identifying, evaluating and recommending remedial measures for patients with communication problems related to hearing disability. Plans and implements prevention, habilitation, or rehabilitation services, including hearing aid selection and orientation, counseling, auditory training, lip reading, language habilitation, speech conservation, and other treatment programs developed in consultation with Speech Pathologist and other health care professionals. Plans for and participates in the integration of audiological services with other medical care and preventive health activities. Dispenses and fits hearing aids to those patients who are determined to be candidates as a result of the diagnostic and evaluative procedures. Makes referrals to appropriate providers, when deemed necessary. Provides technical consultation to audiometric technicians, regarding testing activities, scheduling, record keeping, and patient follow-up. Keeps abreast of developments in the field of audiology and in legislation pertaining to the field (e.g., legislation regarding hearing aid dispensing). Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 1 to 4 employees in the Health Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Master's degree in Audiology or Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree; no substitutions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

At least six months experience in the field of Audiology.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess an Oklahoma Board Licensure from the Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology. Board certification through either the American Board of Audiology or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) (aka CCC-A).

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIGs Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSAs List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIGs List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.

Prefer pediatric audiology expererience.
