QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Arizona State Guidance Counselor certification.
- Degree required in relevant field of study.
- Prior relevant work experience.
- Have knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies.
- Ability to obtain a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Board Alternative: Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
- Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position is held in the highest of confidentiality.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement the district adopted Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG).
- Provide classroom and small group developmental activities. (e.g., self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making)
- Coordinate and facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary Conference Team (MDC).
- Facilitate the introduction of students to the school community.
- Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns.
- Help to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
- Promote parents understanding of academic progress, behavior, growth, and development issues.
- Help resolve student-teacher conflicts.
- Provide in-service training as needed.
- Consult about class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships.
- Aid in the interpretation of test results to students, parents and teachers.
- Take an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
- Work closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child abuse.
- Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as parenting groups and/or support groups.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
