Camp Description:
This day camp is the summer program of LREI, a historic Progressive Education school located in the West Village. Our priority is to offer a safe, creative, engaging place for children to grow in the summertime. We foster a non-competitive, welcoming environment for all children who attend. Children are encouraged to make new friends and to participate in fun activities that interest them and provide opportunities to learn new skills.

Requirements in advance of the camp season:
Planning Retreat: the afternoon of Friday, May 17th - evening of Sunday, May 19th.
Five hours of virtual Professional Development/First Aid: Dates/times TBD

Season Dates:
- Attend all staff Orientation on Monday, June 17th, Tuesday June 18th, Thursday, June 20th, 10am-6pm and Friday, June 21st 9am-6pm or until classroom set-up is complete.
- Camp Season: June 24th - August 2nd, 8:30am-4:30pm.
- End-of-Season Celebration: August 2nd, starting at 6pm.
*Candidates must be available for all pre-season and season dates in order to be considered for employment, without exception.

Responsibilities of Specialists include:
- Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children (between 4 and 13 years old) in classes focused on your area of expertise (art/sensory, theater/dramatic play, movement, science, tech etc)
-Plan and lead daily classes and projects inclusive of camper interests (four one hour classes a day)
-Support Head Counselors and Homegroups on weekly camp-wide field trips around the city and daily during camper lunch.
-Supervise and delegate to supporting teachers during classes.
-Work collaboratively with other counselors.
-Communicate with administrators on a daily basis; accept feedback and process camp-based challenges and successes.
-Work to uphold the program's progressive education and diversity initiatives in every camp activity.

Specialist Job Qualifications
Minimum college degree in area of expertise and/or in education (masters degree preferred), at least three years experience as lead teacher in an educational and/or camp program; ability to generate and lead group activities for children between the ages of 4 and 13; ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and communicate effectively. All Specialists are required to get current CPR and First Aid certification.
Salary: $4800-$5200 for the camp season
