ABOUT THIS POSITION: The Cashier II is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties in support of the Business Office. These duties include: Greet, screen and respond to in-person, telephone or email requests from faculty, students and staff. Collect fees and other monies, issues receipts, activates meal cards and disperses checks. Assist faculty, students and staff; receipt monies, resolved problems and correct irregularities as appropriate or refers to superiors for resolution; Establish, track and monitor extended payment plans for students; Receive payment, resolve problems and correct irregularities as appropriate; Assist in reconciling all district and student body monies, prepares and makes bank deposits; Responsible for placing and removing holds on students accounts due to non-payment; Processes Electronic Record of Deposits (ERODs) between the district and Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Maintains accurate records of vehicle parking permits for both faculty, students and staff; Process refunds of grants and scholarships. Perform a variety of general to complex clerical accounting duties such as recording financial data, posting receipts, preparing billing statements, and making mathematical calculations; gathers, assembles, tabulates and checks financial and statistical data. Responsible for monitoring outstanding student receivables and processing necessary collection recovery reports and notices; May assist in gathering, preparing and filing a variety of financial and statistical records, files and reports; Maintain records of cash transactions and receipts issued; balances monies; issues refunds as appropriate; receive monies from various District sources; maintains and balances cash drawer daily. May performs a variety of clerical duties such as data entry, typing, maintaining records, filing, processing and distributing mail and answering phones. Participate in year-end closing procedures and provides assistance to external auditors; Assist and advise Cashier I and Student Worker(s); Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Fiscal Services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Accounting/Bookkeeping experience required based upon education level:High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience Non-related degree or equivalent and four (4) years of experience Associate degree or equivalent in a business-related field and two (2) years of experience Bachelors degree or equivalent in a business-related field and one (1) year of experience Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees. Beginner Excel experience. Microsoft Office and Power Point Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students; and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities. ?DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1 years prior experience in Accounting/Bookkeeping. 1 years prior experience in customer service. Experience in higher education or a public service environment. Intermediate Excel experience Ability to independently plan and organize work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships both within the District and external. Detail oriented. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY NECESSARY TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION: Effective methods of working with the public. Effective written and oral skills. General office processes and procedures such as filing and record keeping. Basic research and evaluation methods. Computer applications such as Word, Excel, e-mail and internet browsers. Basic filing methods. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Data entry and record keeping methods. Maintain records and reports in a neat and accurate manner. Learn West Kern Community College policies and procedures. Learn Federal, state and district laws, rules and regulations. Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately. Operate a calculator, computer and related office equipment. Enter and retrieve data into an electronic system accurately and timely. Interpret and apply applicable rules and regulations. Carry out oral and written directions. Sit for extended periods Lift and carry 25 pounds, such as paper. Bend and reach to retrieve and file supplies, equipment and documents. Maintain absolute confidentiality in all human resources-sensitive concerns, issues, and situations. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a part-time, temporary position. Assignments will be 20-28 hours per week. May require over-time, holiday or weekend work to meet deadlines. Work is generally performed indoors but may involve traveling to district or county offices to complete assignments or for research, workshops, training or meetings. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range for the position is a Grade 23 on the Classified Salary Schedule with a range of $27.18-$31.46 per hour.
