General Description

The Maintenance Machinist repots to the Lead Maintenance Machinist and/or Plant Manager. This position is responsible for designing, building and maintaining production equipment. This position is also responsible to assist with maintaining all aspects of company property as requested.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricates metallic and nonmetallic parts
  • Fits and assembles machined parts into complete units
  • Applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques
  • Checks blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measures, marks, and scribe's dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and saws
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated as needed
  • Operate manual machining equipment such as a Bridgeport mill, manual metal lathe, drill press, and various powered hand tools
  • Work with a design group to develop new product and manufacturing plant machinery as necessary
  • Assess current machinery to find continuous improvements needed to improve production or machine reliability
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as lubricating equipment, changing filters, inspecting parts and machines for wear, and cleaning equipment
  • Repairs equipment, rebuilds equipment, and adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
  • Installs equipment, devices, and instruments in a factory setting
  • Work from own ideas and input from others to build machinery, parts, or components
  • Machine parts from various materials while maintaining acceptable tolerances
  • Trouble shoot and repair multiple types of production machines (does not include PLC)
  • Preform preventative maintenance on machinery per the company requirements
  • Documents problems and maintenance records for the plant and equipment
  • Properly communicate with persons while preforming repairs/maintenance
  • Properly follow the Lock Out Tag Out procedure
  • Read precision measuring instruments
  • Assist with keeping inventory of necessary repair parts
  • Other duties as requested but not limited to:
    • Snow removal
    • General building maintenance
    • Grounds keeping
    • Basic electrical trouble shooting
    • Janitorial duties
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a machinist, industrial maintenance tech, or related field, or a certificate of completion from a trade school in a related field
  • Ability to read precision machine tools and tape measures
  • Ability to safely use power tools
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at a time
  • Be willing to learn new skills and processes
