Electrical Engineer I

The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing electrical components into devices. They will also help design and manufacture electrical products of all shapes and sizes. They should be able to make quality assurance checks in order to keep the product standard high.
Job purpose
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Engineer I performs calculations and analyses in accordance with Regulatory requirements, vessel specifications, and organizational standards. These tasks will be performed to support all phases of design (e.g., Concept, Functional, and Production design phases).
Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Review contract specifications, determine and document requirements for shipboard electrical power generation, distribution, control, communications, and navigation systems.
- Write and review equipment specifications and perform equipment and vendor evaluations.
- Prepare, revise, and review engineering calculations (e.g., Load Analysis, Breaker Coordination Study, etc.), engineering operating procedures, instructions, specifications, drawings (e.g., One-line diagrams, etc.), standards and documentation for cognizant equipment and systems.
- Ability to support the production workforce concerning electrical engineering related activities.
- Responsible for resolving all Class, Regulatory and customer comments related to electrical engineering deliverables.
- Assist with the development of Concept Designs and technical proposals.
- Interact with project management and project engineers in support of project requirements.
- Ability to support the Production Craft concerning electrical related issues.
Qualifications
The following qualifications and knowledge are necessary to successfully perform this job:
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of marine power, control, automation, communications, and navigation systems.
- Ability to trouble-shoot and coordinate interfacing of power systems, control systems, automation systems, communications systems, and navigation systems.
- Broad based knowledge of relay logic, PLC based control systems and variable frequency drives.
- Familiarization with federal regulations (USCG), international rules (SOLAS) and classification society rules (ABS).
- Experience with electrical automation systems based on PLC technology.
- Experience with power, control, communications, and navigation type systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical control schematic design and control configuration. Experience in electrical system design using AutoCAD is a requirement.
- Computer aided drafting skills (AutoCAD).
- Technical writing skills.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Tools and Software.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field required.
- Minimum 1 year of Electrical Engineering experience is required.
- Professional Licensure in Electrical, Marine or an applicable discipline is highly desired.
- Shipyard experience with new vessel construction is preferred.
- Experience with Petrochemical, LNG, Refinery processing desired.
